Vancouver Waackademy is an inclusive dance and fitness organization directed by Mae Calinisan and Christina Dang. At Vancouver Waackademy, we firmly believe that movement and dance is essential to a healthy mind, soul & body. Having an awareness of the nuances of your body language and facial expressions enlightens you to how your simple movements can portray your character and personality, as wel

l as influence how others feel and perceive you. The specialized "waacking" programs within the organization offer an enriched experience that includes dance, fitness, history, and most importantly, a community within the waackademy. Key concepts focused on throughout the programs include origins, music, foundational techniques, discovery and integration of personal style, and overall well-being. The style of waacking is extraordinary because it embodies soul and feeling, providing a way for you to explore and celebrate your femininity and allow the power of your unique feminine energy to radiate. The courses are designed to leave students feeling more comfortable, confident and experienced with dancing in any social or competitive setting. We will create Dancing Queens that have the control, technique and experience to shine at the drop of a dime! Real training, real results.

============================================

What is Waacking? Waacking is a dance form that emerged from New York around the disco era and is presently going through a resurgence in the dance scene. Recently featured on So You Think You Can Dance, Waacking is a dance form that screams sophisticated sass. With roots tracing back to the nightclub culture of the '70s, it is heavily influenced by the disco and funk era. Waack dancing is recognizable by it's femininity, fast arm movements and vogues (pausing while dancing to pose), using the arms to hit every beat in the music to extenuate musicality. It's the driving rhythms & hard beats that make the funky disco music resonate through a waacker's swift and dynamic arm movements. This is commonly contrasted by the strong and snappy angular poses of Voguing, a style often incorporated into waacking. The style itself is an exuberant display of confidence and steeze.
