It's one of Juliet 'Kego's guiding philosophies, and it was woven through everything she brought to Further Together 2026. Her action-oriented message was one of the things attendees loved most about the summit.

Creating the future isn't abstract. It's the work co-operatives do every day: building collective ownership, sharing power, and choosing community over competition.

That's one simple insight Sandra McDowell, Founder of , shared with us at Further Together 2026.

What happens when an economy is designed to meet human need — instead of maximize shareholder return?

At Further Together 2026, Tom Webb walked us through how we got here: an economy built for the few, where wealth concentration keeps climbing and the benefits rarely reach the people doing the work. Then he turned the question around — what's the alternative?

"Co-ops help us build an economy whose primary purpose is to meet human need."

Tom connected the dots across both days of the summit as the founder of the MMCCU program at Saint Mary's University, grounding big-picture economic democracy in something concrete.
