Copley Community Orchard is on the unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We have partnered with the City of Vancouver (not Vancouver Parks) to work with community members to create an urban agriculture site on the former grounds of Richard and Marie Copley’s orchard. The site had been vacant for decades, and now, in ke

eping with the site’s history, our focus is perennial fruit culture as we connect to the land, food, and each other. The site includes an apple orchard, espaliered apple and pear trees, rare or unique fruit trees, berry bushes and fruiting shrubs. There is a focus on community celebration and education, as well as good old fashioned organic food production!

Growing African Heritage at Copley Copley Community Orchard Join us for a special afternoon of stories, food, and partnership with Afro Van Connect. Afro Van Connect

Kor will share the stories behind a variety of vegetables from different regions of Africa that have been grown right here at Copley Community Orchard. Together, we’ll explore the history and culture of Afro-Indigenous farmers, traditional land stewardship practices, and the importance of culturally significant foods.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how food connects us to culture, history, and the land while celebrating the rich agricultural knowledge passed down through generations.

Everyone is welcome! Come learn, ask questions, and celebrate the diversity of the plants and people that enrich our community.

Blooming Gardens for Pollinators: Exploring Urban Pollinator Conservation

Calling all nature enthusiasts and gardeners!

In 2021, we planted a Butterflyway Garden in connection with the David Suzuki Foundation’s Butterflyway Garden Project.

https://davidsuzuki.org/take-action/act-locally/butterflyway/

Sophia Fan completed her research looking (and counting!) the pollinators in many of these gardens. She is a MSc graduate from the Tseng Lab at the Department of Zoology, University of British Columbia.

We are thrilled to invite you to an enriching experience with Sophia.

More information:

Sophia collected essential plant and pollinator data from gardens to delve deeper into understanding the human dimensions of urban pollinator conservation. Her research is paving the way for more effective and sustainable efforts to protect our precious pollinators!

Don’t miss this chance to contribute to a greener future and learn how your garden can play a crucial role in urban pollinator conservation. Sophia will share her insights and discoveries, providing valuable tips to make your garden a haven for these vital creatures.

Spread the word and bring your friends! Together, let’s foster a deeper appreciation for our environment and take positive steps toward pollinator conservation. 🦋💚
