Our Members gained insights on human rights reporting at our most recent Roundtable: Workshopping Your Report Under Bill S-211. We were joined by Delphi’s Melissa Harris for a detailed discussion on the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act and we also heard from Osler’s John Valley for a legal perspective on how to use this reporting as an incremental step towards better practices.

As always, CBSR sessions operate under the Chatham House Rule, and our Members took advantage of this opportunity for peer-to-peer learning and exchange. Here are three of our take-aways.

Next up: Our first Net Zero Working Group session of the year on Wednesday, April 17 will focus on Operationalizing Net Zero!

Join us for an exclusive Members-only roundtable on Wednesday, March 20: “Workshopping Your First Report Under Bill S-211". This recently passed federal legislation requires companies operating and trading in Canada to disclose the steps they are taking to tackle and child labour in their supply chains. This session will explore Members’ reporting experiences to date, including...

📌 Discussions around internal support systems and challenges
📌 Key learnings to enhance future reporting
📌 Strategies to go beyond compliance and drive real change

While legislation is a great first step, there are limitations. Recent headlines highlight the urgency of this discussion, including the Globe & Mail’s report that some Chinese seafood factories are allegedly using North Korean forced labour to meet rising demand despite standards being met on paper: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-china-seafood-north-korea/

Supported by Delphi’s resident policy expert, Melissa Harris, and featuring a CBSR Member Spotlight from Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, this roundtable is an opportunity for to discuss how they can surpass regulatory requirements and achieve impactful results.

Our team is feeling energized after connecting with many of you at last week! It is not every month that we get three FULL days to collaborate in-person with our members and community, so we’ve reflected on our biggest take-aways:

🚧 To make impactful, positive change, we need to take risks, get comfortable with proceeding despite uncertainty, and be vulnerable by admitting our mistakes.

💡 Data is important, but it can also be an unnecessary hurdle to positive action. Do not collect data just for data’s sake, be intentional about the data you gather and request.

📋 Engaging your compliance team in your ESG reporting will change how your organization views sustainability and climate action, and lead to more robust ESG reports.

📢 Breaking down silos across your organization and across sectors through peer engagement and knowledge exchange is a critical enabler on our path to .

CBSR has an incredible year of programming planned for 2024, starting with an upcoming Roundtable on the Modern Slavery Bill S-211 in March.

Today we completed Workshop #2 of the Fellowship (SPF), which walked our Fellows through the potential first step of a sustainable procurement journey: prioritizing where to act. We were joined by Tim Reeve of Reeve Consulting as the facilitator of this session. Tim leveraged his 20+ years of consulting in this space to simplify the complex journey of implementing sustainable procurement into bite-sized, actionable chunks.

Luckily, this won’t be the last time we get to see Tim and learn from the expertise of Reeve Consulting – he will be back for Workshop #9 in May.

Designed for both procurement and sustainability professionals, our SPF program will help your organization address supply chain emissions and meet your clients ESG requirements. To get a taste of this in demand program, join us for the open-door SPF Workshop #3 at 2024 (GF24) in Vancouver on Feb 14. Register for GF24 now: https://bit.ly/3SkgiE4
