The Citizens Foundation (TCF) is a professionally managed, non-profit organization set up in 1995 by a group of citizens concerned with the dismal state of education in Pakistan. It is now one of Pakistan's leading organizations in the field of formal education. As of 2013, TCF has established 910 purpose-built school units nationwide with an enrolment of 126,000 students, and strives to maintain
a balanced gender ratio in most of its campuses. More than 9,500 jobs have been created in communities in which TCF operates. TCF organizes an extensive Pre-Service Training (PRESET) for its new staff every year. This training is spread over 100 hours of various modules dealing with child psychology, learning styles, assessment methods and child-centred teaching strategies. Apart from the PRESET, rigorous In-Service Training (INSET) is conducted every summer to keep existing faculty abreast with new trends and pedagogy in teaching. TCF has raised public awareness about the problems arising due to the dire issue of illiteracy in Pakistan, and thrives on three core values: integrity, ownership, and continuous improvement. TCF believes education can make the difference between temporary alleviation and long-term solutions.
