Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice. ✨

Today, we honour the strength, achievements, and contributions of Black communities while reflecting on the history that shaped this day. Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not only a milestone to celebrate, but a responsibility to uphold through equity, dignity, and inclusion for all.

As Vanessa Brwon, Atira Program Manager, shares: "It is a time to love and be loved, to come together rather than be divided, and to reaffirm our shared commitment to dignity, opportunity, and equality for all."

At Atira, we stand in solidarity with Black communities and remain committed to creating safer, more equitable spaces where everyone can thrive.

Gender-based violence is not just a personal issue—it is a public health, housing, and community safety issue.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s declaration of gender-based violence as an epidemic is an important step toward recognizing the far-reaching impacts of violence and the collective action needed to prevent it.

Because addressing gender-based violence requires all of us.

Ten years ago, Jennifer was facing an uncertain future.

Today, she's a thriving entrepreneur.

This is the power of housing with supports, not just a place to stay, but the stability, connection, and opportunity to build a new future.

When we get it right, lives change.

This Story is Narrated and shared by Sarah McIntosh, CEO of Atira Women's Resource Society, who witnessed Jennifer journey firsthand.

Happy Pride Month from Atira Women’s Resource Society 🌈

At Atira, we believe everyone deserves safety, dignity, and a place to call home. This Pride Month, we proudly celebrate the strength, resilience, and beauty of the LGBTQ+ and 2STGD communities, while reaffirming our commitment to inclusive housing and support services for trans, non-binary, gender-diverse, and marginalized communities.

Through programs like Aoki Ross House and The NEST Shelter, we continue working toward spaces where everyone is welcomed, valued, and supported exactly as they are.

You belong here. You are valued. You are home. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to listen, to honour, and to remember that Indigenous knowledge has always been here and must be preserved.

At Waaban, our Indigenous-led outreach program in Surrey, this knowledge is shared every week through teachings like the Medicine Wheel and the Seven Sacred Teachings. Through meeting and ceremony. Through presence and sharing experiences.

Here, Elder Wapahcheaph shares what it means to share this knowledge. What it means to be there for others and to receive just as much in return.

“I thought I was here to give hope. But working at Waaban, I found it too. When you give, you get back. That’s the biggest gift I’ve been given: gratitude.”

Waaban represents rebirth. Renewal. Rebuilding. And for many Indigenous women, Two-Spirit people, and families facing difficult times, it’s a place to begin again grounded in culture, surrounded by care.

If you’d like to support Indigenous-led programs like Waaban, you can donate and mention in the comments if you’d like your gift to go directly to these programs: https://atira.bc.ca/ways-to-help/donate/donate-funds-gift-cards/

Everyone deserves to understand their rights — and to have someone in their corner while navigating complex systems. 💜

At Atira's Legal Advocacy Program, women can access free legal advocacy, referrals, and support in a safe, confidential, and judgment-free space. From housing and income assistance to family law and human rights issues, advocacy can be life-changing.

Because access to justice should never depend on income, status, or circumstance. ✨

✨ Different generations, same goal: ending gender-based violence.

Whether it’s policy tables or TikTok takes, every voice matters in creating safer communities. 💜

Millennials walked so Gen Z could trend it. Gen Z amplified it so the world could no longer ignore it.

Together? That’s real change.

Success doesn’t always look loud or immediate—sometimes it’s steady, determined, and deeply personal.

It’s choosing to keep going, even when doubt shows up. It’s taking chances on yourself, even when it feels uncomfortable. It’s deciding you deserve more—and moving toward it, step by step.

At Atira Women's Resource Society, we’re proud to witness women claiming their futures in ways that are meaningful to them.

Every step forward matters. And every success, big or small, is worth celebrating.
