In 2011, a tiny pride-related event was held in support of the Dr. Peter Centre at the Loden Hotel. This inaugural Pride Cocktail Kickoff was brought to life by three dedicated community members Ryan Mckinley, Kevin Mazzone, and Gary Serra.

Sid Koshul later joined the committee and together, this dedicated team helped us raise a grand total of $855,163 over the past 15 years. They took that tiny event and made it into something beloved, an annual tradition rooted in community care, compassion, acceptance, and love.

This past Friday, 15 TELUS volunteers arrived at our doorstep, rolled up their sleeves, and "showed up" for us, staining furniture and beautifying the back garden patio so our participants have a relaxing summer oasis to enjoy. It's the kind of project tough to prioritize without the help of great volunteers.

TELUS has been supporting the DPC since 1994 (32 years for those keeping count!) in various forms—from donations to volunteering and event sponsorships. Friendships this long sometimes lose touch. But that hasn't happened with TELUS, who continue, year-over-year, to demonstrate what a caring relationship looks like.

You still have time to visit the DPC Art Show at the Mole Gallery! Our immensely talented participants spent months preparing and their talent is undeniable. The event is free to attend and features artwork from more than 10 artists from the DPC Art Studio. All proceeds go to the participants.

The event runs until the end of the month. Check it out on Friday or Saturday between 12pm and 4pm. The space is located at 1157 Pendrell Street via Jepson-Young Lane.

Here in Canada, it's National Nursing Week. It seems fitting that the observance falls in mid-May, when spring flowers are out in full force and everything feels alive. Nurses have that same power: to help things grow, to nurture life, to part the gray clouds in a person's life and makes things look sunny again.

At the Dr. Peter Centre, the leadership of our nurses—whether at the bedside, in clinical planning, or in quiet moments of crisis intervention—is what makes our entire model possible. They don't just provide care; they lead the way in showing what healthcare should look like.

Today, we remember the Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people who should still be here. We refuse to let their absence become silence, become normalized. reminds us that we require sustained action: initiatives resourced by settlers, led by Indigenous communities, that confront the conditions that led to this loss--and ensure it cannot continue.
