πŸŽ— Our 2026 Awareness series continues and acknowledges World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, taking place today, June 15. Abuse is a difficult topic to discuss and seeking help is commendable, as abuse so often stays a secret. Due to both the motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, some people with the disease may be even more vulnerable.

πŸ“š Our 2026 Awareness series continues addressing your rights in the workplace by discussing the process of accommodation. Accommodating a disability means removing barriers and making adjustments to standards, requirements, practices, policies, and rules that have a negative impact on individuals with a disability. While the process can seem challenging, accommodation is your legal right and your employer’s corresponding legal duty.

πŸ“£ Skyline Innovation is a British Columbia-based health technology company developing Speech Check, a speech practice app designed for people living with Parkinson’s. They are currently inviting participants to join a community pilot program. The app guides short daily sessions (about 5–10 minutes) with feedback to help support clearer, more consistent speech at home. The pilot is free, fully remote, and does not require in-person visits. Participants will receive access to the app for 6 months and a supported experience with optional group check-ins and updates!

πŸ“š Our 2026 Awareness series continues with a focus on your rights. A diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) changes personal and professional lives. The decision to disclose to your current or prospective employer that you have been diagnosed with PD is an important one that is highly personal and depends on your individual circumstances.

πŸ’œ On May 27, we are hosting a conversation led by Olivia Bauer, Social Worker at the Movement Disorders Clinic at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. Supporting someone living with Parkinson’s can involve second-guessing decisions, replaying difficult interactions, or carrying the quiet pressure to always β€œdo it right.”
