On Saturday The BC Trades Equity Society, along with our fellow sponsons Spotless Uniform and Linen, Construction Foundation of British Columbia, and WesternJETS - WIRED hosted "Fit For Safety" a Women's PPE Showcase.

We'd like to thank our fellow sponsors that have contributed so much to help us bring women's PPE and the safety around it into the light to help us change things for the better.

Thank you to the vendors Workwear Outfitters Inc., IFR Workwear and Atlas Workwear, who came to share their women's PPE off and allow us to try it on and hear our feedback.

We would also like to thank the organizations that sent people to share resources and the companies that donated door prizes. BC Centre for Women in the Trades, ConnectHER Hub at BCIT, Technical Safety BC, EECOL Electric, Corestock Industrial Supply, Canadian Tire, Prince George and Area Women In Trades, Northern Regional Construction Association and the Kootenay Women in Trades and Technology.

We appreciate everything that all of these companies, organizations and individuals have contributed to help us keep moving things forward for everyone who works in the trades and industry.

After a lot of hard work, we’re excited to be launching our pilot training session for Show Up for Safer Workplaces!

Show Up is an innovative new program that will create safer, healthier, and more productive workplaces throughout the construction sector, by giving workers and employers the practical tools to address urgent psychological safety hazards—including addressing mental health and addiction, su***de prevention, and bullying and harassment.

Show Up is designed as a four-day comprehensive training program that can help people recognize and support mental health and substance use concerns, prevent toxic workplace culture, and become active partners in creating healthier and more stable work environments.

Topics covered will include psychological safety, mental health first aid and su***de awareness, substance use, and bullying, harassment and discrimination—including providing participants with strategies and resources they can take back to their jobsites that will help build more respectful, stable and healthier workplaces. In addition to the more fulsome training and take-away tools, participants will also attain a certificate in Mental Health First Aid, as developed and recognized by the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

We invite you to get in on our free pilot training sessions, offered on:
- September 23-26, in Burnaby
- October 27-30, in downtown Vancouver
- November 25-28, in Burnaby

Not in the Lower Mainland? We'll be adding new dates and locations for 2026 soon!

That’s our VP Lisa Scott and her vision became a reality 🙌🏾👷🏼‍♀️👷🏾‍♀️👷🏿‍♀️

Between July 7 - 10, our Quesnel sawmill proudly hosted the Construction Foundation of BC’s Discover Trades Camp – Young Women in Trades. Over four action-packed days, girls aged 10–13 got hands-on experience in skilled trades like carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, and sheet metal.

“Thank you to West Fraser for your continued support – it truly makes camps like this possible,” said Lisa Scott, Catalyst Apprenticeship Promotion and Progression, Construction Foundation of British Columbia. “Watching these girls gain confidence as they explored new tools and trades was incredible. The skills they built – and the memories they made – will stay with them.”

Other activities included our Quesnel team touring the group through the sawmill, to learn how logs are manufactured into lumber as well as a visit to our log sorting facility. We are pleased to create awareness of the importance of the trades to the forest sector and support the development of the next generation of employees.
