Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users

Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users VANDU is a peer-run drug user organization based in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

The Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) is a group of users and former users who work to improve the lives of people who use illicit drugs through user-based peer support and education. Our goal is drug user liberation - and we know that liberation will only come through the work of drug users themselves.

The war on the poor and the war on drug users is ongoing. On May 11th, two short films examining the legacy of poet warrior of the Downtown Eastside Bud Osborn are playing at the Pacific Cinematheque.

The first, Keys to the Kingdom (1999) is a collaborative film poem with Bud himself, and the second, Just Poems (About Drugs) (2026), speaks with current and past VANDU members examining Bud's legacy.

Join us to reflect and discuss where we have been and where we may go from here.

Nathaniel Geary and Ryan Sudds have made many friends and a few films in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side (DTES). These films emphasize the continuum of artistic and cultural acts that have been articulated across decades of struggle and solidarity.

Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users calls for an 'end to this farce' 10 years into state of emergency

Dave Hamm says VANDU has never stopped calling on governments to keep people safe, and said at Tuesday's rally that politicians were backing away from harm reduction policies in the face of political rhetoric.

"We're calling for an end to this farce, and to get into the real meat and potatoes ... let's get done with this. It's way too long," he said.

Join us tomorrow Tuesday April 14th for a vigil at Oppenheimer Park to mark 10 years of a public health emergency for toxic drugs.

April 14th marks 10 years since the colonial Government of B.C. declared a public health emergency because of the toxic drug crisis.

People have survived the drug war, the war on the poor, and colonial genocide for decades, but we mark this day nonetheless to rage against those in power who continue to orchestrate murder, and to grieve those who have not survived.

Join us for a candlelight vigil at Oppenheimer Park.
