Period poverty and stigma reinforce each other, creating a cycle of menstrual inequity. Limited access to education or supplies perpetuates misinformation and shapes menstruators’ experiences. Interventions—like someone correcting the idea that periods are “gross” by explaining they’re natural—can help break this cycle and shift mindsets toward menstrual equity.

Menstruation is made up of 4 phases. Understanding these phases can help menstruators plan their lives (such as planning their schedules or meals), and make decisions to help manage their menstrual health and symptoms. Someone might plan to do higher intensity workouts when they are in their follicular phase because they have higher energy levels during that phase.

To learn more about the menstrual phase check out our Menstrual Equity workshop series!

Join our Free Periods Canada series as we start learning about menstrual health and why it matters. Menstrual health is not only about having a period, but it’s also about supporting the physical, mental, and social well-being of those who menstruate.
