Today marks 2 months since the unlawful arrest of health workers Dr. Ana Marie Rilloraza (โ€œDoc Anaโ€), Marc Mendiola, and others detained in a March 11 joint military-police operation in the Philippines involving physical assault, warrantless arrest, red-tagging, the planting of evidence, and more.

They face a host of fabricated, unbailable, and trumped-up false charges. CPSHR joins the international call for the immediate release of Doc Ana, Marc, and the Cordillera 8!

Doc Ana is a community doctor who was providing health care for underserved communities in the Cordillera region of the Philippines. Her patients included indigenous peoples, rural poor communities, and those in disaster-stricken and militarized areas affected most heavily by climate change. She immersed in the communities she served by participating in farming activities, learning local ways, and studying their economic realities.

Marc Mendiola is a community health worker, journalist, and human rights advocate committed to exposing injustice and uplifting oppressed voices. He provided psychological first aid to the community and organized health workers in hospitals in the Cordillera region.

The detention of Doc Ana and Marc is an attack on all health workers and their right to serve the people without fear or persecution. Last week, health workers across the Philippines rallied for the defense and release of the Cordillera 8 on National Health Workersโ€™ Day.

The Free Doc Ana & Marc Campaign calls for financial, material, and moral support for the detainees and their families. CPSHR joins this growing chorus of voices from health groups, concerned human rights advocates and the international community in calling for the immediate release of Doc Ana and Marc.

This May 3rd, we marched alongside BAYAN organizations in celebration of Mayo Uno, or International Workersโ€™ Day. We came together in solidarity with workers and migrants around the world. Workersโ€™ liberation is directly connected with the liberation of migrants; the liberation of the Philippines from foreign domination is directly linked with all other struggles of sovereignty worldwide.

From Turtle Island to Palestine, from Venezuela to the Philippines, we will not stop until we are all free!

We stand firm with the Filipino people in their calls for an end to corruption and foreign intervention! As the standard of living dips drastically in the Philippines due to the oil prices, we affirm the Filipino peoplesโ€™ rights to a living wage, protest and assembly, and dignity.

We call for the Canadian government to review their current agreements with the government of the Republic of the Philippines, a known human rights abuser. On April 19th, the Philippine government massacred 19 people, including organizers, activists, students, journalists, and civilian farmers. This is a gross human rights violation and must be independently investigated.

On top of this, the Philippine continues to have over 700 political prisoners. We call especially for the release of Maoj Maga, a worker who was arrested 8 years ago now for fighting for rights.

Globally, workers are affected by rising prices. Both here in Canada and in the Philippines, the US-Israeli led aggression against Iran is impacting the broad masses of people the most.

Both workers and peasants in the Philippines face worsening conditions. For peasants especially, who already face extreme poverty, militarization only further destroys communities.

We witnessed the murder of 19 people in a rural community by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Civilian organizers who wanted to learn more about the situation of peasant farmers and their realities were murdered.

These conditions only worsen with economic crises. More and more people are being pushed into poverty. For a country like the Philippines, this often leads to more migration to other countries such as Canada.

The Canadian government, despite its commitments to humanitarian law, refuse to hold the Philippine government accountable. The murder of civilians is illegal according to International Law.

Call for the Canadian government to pull troops out of the Philippines!
Come to our International Workers Day Event to show solidarity with workers across the world!
Come to the Ka Daning speaking tour!
Keep an eye out for upcoming events to learn more about the situation in the Philippines!

Justice for the Toboso 19!

Why is money being funnelled into military spending when people go hungry, lack shelter, and desire education?

CPSHR denounces the massacre of civilians in Negros Occidental by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Time and time again, we see how militarization does not โ€œdefendโ€ anyone - instead, it commits human rights violation after human rights violation. According to International Humanitarian Law, civilians should be protected at all costs. When has the Armed Forces of the Philippines done that?

Stop the Canadian government from giving military aid to the Philippines! Get Canadian troops out of the Philippines!

Sign our e-petition today! It will be tabled at the House of Commons. tinyurl.com/StopSOVFAPetition
