The United Nations Association in Canada strives for a better world through a variety of national projects focused on specific issues and audiences. We work closely with the educational communities in every province and territory to build their capacity to educate young people from a global perspective. Theme: Migration, Belonging in Urban Spaces – Global North & South
Date: Wednesday, April 29 | Time: 2:00–4:30 PM (PST)
Location: Vancouver City Hall, Town Hall Meeting Room 110 (Hybrid Event)

🌍 Featured Organization: Global Shapers Vancouver
Created by the World Economic Forum, Global Shapers is a global community of over 10,000 young leaders aged 18–30 working to create positive change in their local and global communities. For over eight years, the Vancouver Hub has been tackling pressing local and global challenges while fostering a dynamic community of impact-driven young leaders.

🪑 Table Captain: Matin Moradkhan (Curator)
Matin Moradkhan is the Curator of Global Shapers Vancouver, leading youth-driven initiatives focused on meaningful change. A passionate advocate for mental health equity, she founded the Talk Mental Health Foundation to advance mental fitness education for students. Matin holds a Master of Global Health from McMaster University and also serves as a UNICEF Canada youth mentor and official advocate.

The Canadian Red Cross works to help people and communities in Canada and around the world during times of need, while supporting long-term resilience. As part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, it collaborates with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and 192 National Societies worldwide.

🪑 Table Captain: Adrienne Joy Bolen (Senior Emergency Management Coordinator)
Adrienne is a Senior Emergency Management Coordinator with CRC’s BC Emergency Management team for the Sea to Sky region, where she trains and manages specialized volunteer teams responding to emergencies from residential fires to large-scale floods. She began her career through a United Nations Association of Canada–funded internship with the UN World Food Programme and later worked in Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, leading digital registration and cash delivery programs and supporting crisis response. Adrienne holds a degree in International Development from the University of Ottawa and has supported grassroots development initiatives in Guatemala and Peru.

The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada is a national not-for-profit organization and think tank dedicated to strengthening Canada’s knowledge of and ties with the countries and peoples of the Asia Pacific. The Foundation conducts policy research and analysis and brings together experts from Canada and Asia to discuss economics, politics, security, technology, the environment, and other key issues.

🪑 Table Captain: Erin Williams (Director of Programs)
Erin Williams is the Director of Programs at the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, where she leads Asia competence programming and provides editorial support for the Foundation’s research. Previously, she worked with the Canadian Member Committee of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (CSCAP). She also serves on the Advisory Board of the Canada China Forum and the Advisory Committee for KPU’s Asian Studies Program.

Amnesty International is a global movement of over 10 million people across 170+ countries working to protect and promote human rights. Their mission is to research, advocate, and take action to prevent abuses and demand justice for those whose rights have been violated.

🪑 Table Captain: Katrina Chau (Grassroots Activist Leader)
Katrina is a lawyer and human rights advocate who has worked on refugee and migrant rights, supported survivors of human trafficking, and assisted low-income migrant workers at risk of labour exploitation. She currently promotes community activism around refugee rights.

🌟Welcome to the 12th Anniversary of Think Global Link Local!🌟

We’re excited to have you join us for this inspiring event, hosted by the United Nations Association in Canada, Vancouver (UNAC-Vancouver), in collaboration with the Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Students.

TGLL is an opportunity to link young people interested in professional opportunities in Canadian and international public service-oriented work (e.g. the UN, humanitarian aid, human rights, refugee support etc.) with present or former practitioners so they can learn of the opportunities open to them.

The TGLL keynote speaker this year is Ms. Jessie Sunner, the BC Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

🌟The 2026 Dr. Richard Splane Lecture in Social Policy marks the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, a landmark resolution recognizing the essential role of women in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and human security, in collaboration between the UBC School of Public Policy and Global Affairs, the UBC School of Social Work, and the United Nations Association in Canada, Vancouver Branch.🌟

This year’s lecture centers women’s perspectives on conflict, resilience, and security, highlighting approaches that advance more equitable, inclusive futures. We are honoured to welcome four prominent leaders whose work continues to influence peace and security efforts worldwide: Katrina Leclerc, Angela Marie MacDougall, Megan MacKenzie, and Ellen Woodsworth. ✨️
