Lecture: Germans and North American Indigenous Peoples
From Karl May's Winnetou to hobbyist "Indianer" clubs, many Germans have grown up with a romanticized image of Indigenous Peoples. But how does that fascination compare with historical reality?
Join Dr. Claudia Launhardt for a lecture on the complex relationship between Germans and the Indigenous Peoples of North America. She will also look at how elements of Indigenous cultures were exploited to support N**i ideology. Her talk encourages us to move beyond stereotypes toward respectful dialogue on contemporary Indigenous self-determination.
