Federation of Canadian Artists Membership-driven non-profit organization with the purpose of supporting the professional development of visual artists in Canada.

The Federation of Canadian Artist is a membership-driven, not-for-profit organization, founded in 1941 by Canadian artist, one of whom was Group of Seven luminary Lawren Harris. The FCA is dedicated to provide
an opportunity for artistic growth, professional development and accreditation to visual artists of various skill levels, with the aim to promote and improve the recognition and professional standing of practicing artists in the community and to stimulate public interest in the growth of Canadian culture. Our activities include workshops, juried and non-juried gallery exhibitions, print publications, critiques, demonstrations, special events, and much more. With over 2,400 members and 11 Chapters in Western Canada, the FCA provides a strong networking service for emerging and established artist, as well as everyone who appreciates art.

Dale Byhre has been painting as a full time artist for the past seven years. In that time he has achieved Senior status in the Federation of Canadian Artists, as well as becoming a Signature member of the Canadian Society of Marine Artists. Though having earned a reputation as a renowned marine artist, Dale has also been sought after by collectors for his coastal scenes and landscapes. ⁠

✨️Our Window Gallery featured artist for the months of October, November and December is Marika Morissette! ✨️

"Marika Morissette is a Burnaby-based visual artist whose vibrant acrylic pour paintings celebrate movement, colour, and discovery. Her lifelong connection to the arts began with childhood oil painting classes, music, and theatre, later balancing creative exploration with a 20-year career as an executive assistant after earning an honours B.A. in Communication Studies from Concordia University. In 2019, she discovered fluid art and was captivated by its unpredictability and sense of wonder. Since leaving the corporate world in 2021 to focus on art and family, Marika has developed a distinctive abstract expressionist style using blowing, puddle pours, swipes, and balloon kisses to create colourful cells and dynamic patterns. She is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, including the Fraser Valley and Nanaimo Chapters, as well as several regional arts organizations. Her work has appeared in numerous juried exhibitions, and her painting “Birch Kaleidoscope” received second place in the nationwide Golden Celebration Juried Art Exhibition at Gallery 1710. Through her art, Marika seeks to share freedom, joy, and inspiration with others."🌊

This three-part lesson series builds a stronger understanding of colour through both theory and demonstration. It covers accurate colour mixing and seeing, including common relationship mistakes and aerial perspective; explores bounced and reflected colour and value transitions in form; and concludes with creating convincing colour in sunlight and shadow, with a focus on temperature.

🔷 About the Instructor - Samantha Williams-Chapelsky 🔷⁠
Known for her large-scale abstracted landscapes, Samantha employs a range of tools—including brooms and palette knives—to apply thick layers of paint to birch panels. Her work emphasizes the materiality of paint to convey emotion and feeling within the natural space. She references landscapes from across Canada, creating works with unique finishes and sheens that vary from shiny to matte, indicating an intuitive feeling of a geographical element in the landscape. ​
