As the final step in the 𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝟐.𝟎: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐉𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐋𝐆𝐁𝐓𝐐𝟐𝐒𝐈𝐀+ 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 and as a parting gift from JQT Vancouver before we close our doors (Jewish High Holidays 2026), we conducted an updated 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 to understand what progress has been made on our 13 Calls to Action by local BC Jewish community organisations, what still requires improvement, and what may be completely new needs for our community in 2026. We also collected recommendations for local BC LGBTQ2SIA+ community organisations in 2026.

Dear JQT community past and present,

As you may already be aware, we will be closing JQT Vancouver by Jewish New Year (September 2026). Before we close our doors, we will release our final report from our 2026 Community Needs Assessment (coming soon!) and we will collect reflections from the JQT community (a.k.a. YOU!) for our 𝐉𝐐𝐓 𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭.

The purpose of this project is to document the organisational history and impact of 𝐉𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐱 𝐨𝐟 𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 (𝐃𝐁𝐀 “𝐉𝐐𝐓 𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐫”) in the Jewish q***r and trans community between the years of 2018 and 2026.

𝐀𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭
This paper examines the experiences of Jewish faculty in Canadian higher education in the aftermath of 7 October 2023. Drawing on in-depth interviews, the study uses the framework of microaggressions to analyze how antisemitism manifests in campus interactions and institutional spaces. Participants reported experiences ranging from overt hostility, subtle stereotyping, and routine dismissals of their lived experiences, fostering alienation, isolation, and professional withdrawal. At the same time, many described the acts of resistance, activism, and identity reclamation. Framed within critical theories of education, the study aims to unpack antisemitism and reconnect it with equity and anti-racism frameworks, while also developing tools to recognize Jewish difference. By centring Jewish counter-narratives, this research highlights the voices of those at the receiving end of antisemitic microaggressions. It contributes to critical education scholarship, calling on universities to recognize antisemitism as a systemic issue deserving sustained attention, within broader commitments to diversity and inclusion.

Thanks to grant funding provided by BC Community Response Networks, supported by the BC provincial government, the JQT Seniors Initiative will be offering a handful of FREE training workshops.

The goal of these workshops is to educate on the barriers impacting Jewish q***r and trans seniors in healthcare, including antisemitism and q***rphobia. Starting next month, we have workshops lined up with BC Hospice Palliative Care Association, BC Community Response Networks, Dignity Seniors Society, and JFS Vancouver, (TBD).

We expect attendance from a variety of professionals including representatives from health authorities and service providers. If you are a healthcare or service provider for seniors in BC and would like to register for one of these workshops, please reach out to us at [email protected]
