🦋 A momentous day at the Paul Myers and Shore Family Respite Centre.

On June 11th, a striking 1-ton butterfly sculpture by renowned Coast Salish artist Xwalacktun was installed — a powerful symbol of transformation and the spirit of all Coast Salish nations in this region.

Within its wings live the thunderbird and the wolf, tributes to the Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish nations, representing strength, leadership, and strong family ties — values at the heart of Care BC.

We are deeply grateful to Xwalacktun, our project partners, and Neptune Terminals for their generous donation that made this possible.

Seniors enrich our lives in countless ways with their wisdom, companionship, and contributions. They generously share life experiences, care for their families, participate in volunteer work, and offer warm support when we need it most.

At CareBC, we see every day that when older adults remain healthy, active, independent, and connected with one another, the entire community becomes better.

Through our Meals on Wheels program, the Paul Myers and Shore Family Respite Centre, and the Community Integration Project (CIP), seniors are able to enjoy a better quality of life. Their families gain greater peace of mind, and their communities benefit as a result.

Thank you to all seniors for your ongoing inspiration, guidance, and care.

Do you have a senior in your life whom you deeply respect? Feel free to share their story in the comments.

During National Volunteer Week, we are shining a spotlight on Peter and David, two of our Meals on Wheels volunteers who have been delivering together for over 8 years!

Not only do they enjoy each other’s company out on delivery, they have also had the opportunity to show their grandsons how meaningful it can be to give back to the community through Meals on Wheels.

They value the friendly chats they share with clients and the sense of structure volunteering brings to their retired lives.

On March 17, 2026, Minister of Health, Josie Osborne toured the North Shore Family Respite Centre. She was accompanied by Doug Purdie, President and Chair of the Board of Care BC and Sylvia Ceacero, CEO of Care BC.

The visit was highlighted by a conversation regarding the overnight respite program that Care BC will deliver from this state-of-the-art facility that comprises 18 units. The Overnight Respite Centre will provide caregivers the ability to leave their loved ones to the expert care of Care BC’s staff.

The leadership of Care BC and Vancouver Coastal Health, also in attendance at the tour, is working closely together to ensure sustainable operating funds are in place for many years to come. This partnership is supported by the generosity of donors who contributed to the capital campaign and the ongoing support of current and future donors. The Minister and Care BC look forward to many years of service to our North Shore community.
