After years in the making, Sana’s wish finally came true! 💙

It started with a plane ride to Florida and the excitement of knowing that something very special was waiting on the other side. Then came the magic of Walt Disney World fall decorations, favourite characters, princesses, thrilling rides and plenty of moments that brought the biggest smiles.

But perhaps the sweetest part was getting to experience it all together. Sana’s family was by her side through every hug, every adventure and every unforgettable moment. Her wish wasn’t just a trip to Walt Disney World Resort®. It was time to make memories, enjoy being together and celebrate a moment that had been a long time coming.

This is the power of a wish. ✨

This month, we shared a few of the incredible stories behind the wishes we grant and a glimpse into why wishes matter so much for children facing cancer. 💙

But these stories are just a few among thousands. Nearly half of all wish requests in Canada are for children with cancer, making Childhood Cancer Awareness Month especially meaningful for our wish community. Behind every wish is a child with a story, a dream, and a future worth believing in.

At just two years old, Kamahri was diagnosed with leukemia. Years of treatment, chemotherapy and periods of isolation made childhood feel very different than he had imagined. But through it all, his love for technology — and the people who stayed by his side — gave him a way to find connection and joy.

Now in remission, Kamahri’s wish was to have a gaming corner of his very own. ✨

In 2025, that wish came true! His new space was complete with LED lights and all the gaming equipment he could have hoped for. He was so excited that he stayed up all night taking it all in. 💙

For Kamahri, his wish created a space to play, connect and simply be a kid again.

Who better to help shape the future of our organization than the young people who’ve experienced a wish themselves? 💙 Meet STARboard, Make-A-Wish Canada’s Youth Advisory Board. Made up of wish alumni from across the country, these incredible young leaders help guide our work, share their experiences, and make sure the voices of wish kids continue to shape the future of our organization.

Today, we’re welcoming four new voices:

⭐ Ryan, 18 — Wish Granted 2026
⭐ Karim, 18 — Wish Granted 2025
⭐ Holley, 18 — Wish Granted 2025
⭐ Nour, 17 — Wish Granted 2025

They join returning members Ansh, Ming, Sarah, Jill, Hannah, Daniel and Uju, bringing together young wish alumni from communities across Canada.

Since STARboard launched in 2024, members have contributed their lived experiences to important organizational conversations. As one of our leaders puts it: “Make-A-Wish has always been child-focused, but through STARboard, we’re becoming child-led too.” 💙

We’re so grateful to every STARboard member for sharing their experiences, lending their voices and helping shape what comes next. And we can’t wait to see what this next group accomplishes together. ✨

Madelyn's wish helped bring back a little of the sparkle that had been missing. ✨💛 At just two years old, Madelyn was diagnosed with leukemia. Over the next two-and-a-half years, she faced blood transfusions, hospital visits, scans, needles and medications. As treatment continued, she began to withdraw — even becoming afraid that a simple car ride might end at the hospital.

Then she learned her wish was coming true: a trip to Walt Disney World 🎠

After months of looking forward to her adventure, Madelyn met her favourite princesses, rode carousels, dined in a magical castle and even had her hair styled like her favourite snow queen.

But perhaps the most special part was seeing Madelyn make friends again. Surrounded by kids who understood what she had been through, her family watched their social butterfly come back to life. 💛

Today, Madelyn is embracing adventure, trying new things and making up for lost time — with photos from her wish capturing that bright personality shining through again. ⭐

For Oliver, even the hardest moments could become an adventure. 🚀💛 When he was four, Oliver was diagnosed with cancer... he faced surgery, 18 months of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. To make treatments a little less scary for a 4-year-old, they told him the machines were spaceships, and Oliver couldn’t wait for the adventure.

That same sense of excitement followed him into his wish: to go to his favourite theme park, Walt Disney World. ✨

In 2025, Oliver took his first-ever flight, met the pilot, and enjoyed as much ice cream and fireworks as a 4-year-old could get! Most importantly, his wish gave Oliver and his family the chance to make joyful memories together after such a difficult chapter.

Today, Oliver is cancer-free and back to his energetic self! 💛

At only 9 years old, Joudy had already been through more than any child should. 💛 Long hospital stays, difficult treatments, medical tubes and constant nausea became part of her childhood. But through it all, she never stopped finding ways to bring joy to the people around her.

When treatment finally ended, her wish was simple: to travel somewhere tropical with her family. 🌴✨
And in 2025, that wish came true.

For a week, Joudy and her family traded hospital rooms for sunny beaches, sandcastles, swimming pools and magical moments together. After years shaped by illness and uncertainty, her wish gave her family the chance to simply be a family again — to laugh, make memories and look ahead with hope.

Today, Joudy has finished her treatment and is looking ahead to what comes next.

Childhood cancer can take away more than health, it can interrupt childhood itself. 💛 School. Birthday parties. Sports. Sleepovers. Time with friends. The moments many children look forward to suddenly have to wait.

A wish can't give families that time back, but it can create new moments of joy, hope, and togetherness when they're needed most.

Meet Uju. 💖 After facing a brain tumour, Uju was more than ready for something that made her feel confident, celebrated, and like herself again.

So alongside her treatment, her doctors prescribed one very special thing: a personalized shopping experience. 🛍️✨Her wish gave her a day to explore her favourite stores, try new things, pick out new looks, and simply enjoy being a teenager. For a little while, the focus wasn’t on appointments or treatment. It was on Uju.

But this wish wasn’t just about what she got to take home. It was about how she felt when she walked out the door: confident, celebrated, and ready for whatever came next.

And Uju’s story didn’t end there.

Today, she’s helping shape what’s next for other wish kids as a member of STARboard, Make-A-Wish Canada’s Youth Advisory Board. She uses her experience as a wish kid to help guide our work and make sure young people’s voices are part of our future. From wish kid, to wish alum, to youth leader, Uju’s story is still being written. 💙
