Across B.C., community programs support children, families, adults and seniors in the places where daily life happens.

Decoda works with 101 Literacy Outreach Coordinators serving 400 communities. Through local partnerships, they help connect people with

• one-to-one and small-group tutoring
• family and children’s programs
• workshops and community learning events
• support for reading, writing, numeracy and digital skills

Happy International Youth Day!

Did you know? The world is home to nearly 1.3 billion young people aged 15 to 24, making it the largest generation of youth to date.

We need young people in literacy work.

Apart from being our future leaders, they are already thinkers, helpers, creators and community builders, and when they are invited into the literacy field, the work is carried forward with fresh energy, care and imagination.

Literacy can be reading a medicine label, following a recipe, checking a bus route, filling out an online form or helping a child sound out a word.
