Working with a network of 100 Literacy Outreach Coordinators, we bring together community leaders from education, health, business and government to identify and address local literacy priorities. We work to increase the literacy and learning skills of children and families, youth, adults, and seniors to improve their quality of life at home, at work and in the community. Kate Nonesuch — the legend!

Kate has taken up stand-up comedy at the age of eighty. Soon, her adult literacy blog will be closing, and she has invited everyone to grab what they need before it’s gone.

Her work has supported and inspired adult literacy practitioners for many years. If there are resources, articles, or tools you’ve been meaning to save, now is the time.

“Working in Adult Literacy” will shut down sometime in the next few months. So now is the time to download any posts or resources that you use in your work and want to keep. Thank you for reading a…

Fundraising 101 Webinar – An Interactive Overview with Abby Sauchuk

Wednesday June 3 12:00 - 1:00 Pacific Time

Is your organization ready for more donors and donations? Join Abby Sauchuk for an engaging and practical introduction to the fundraising basics; including how to confidently make the ask of corporate donors, where to start building those donor relationships and how to keep them coming back to give. We’ll also explore the role of marketing and social media in fundraising success, followed by time for questions, discussion, and shared ideas.

Abby’s fundraising journey began in 2006 while managing an ESL program for 100 children at an orphanage in South Korea, where she helped grow a small, underfunded program into one with a library, strong volunteer support, and more than $10,000 in resources. Since then, Abby has spent nearly two decades helping nonprofits grow through fundraising, grant writing, event management, and community partnerships, including raising more than $5.5 million and securing $2.4 million in grants during nine years as Director of Development for a local food bank. Today, she works as the Executive Director of Literacy Now Cowichan, a fundraising coach with NxtGen Fundraising, and an independent consultant and speaker supporting organizations across Canada.

It was great to see all of you!

Last Thursday and Friday, Annette, our Literacy Outreach Coordinator, joined Maureen Kehler and fellow service providers at the Decoda Literacy Conference 2026.

This year’s theme, Literacy: Bridging the Gaps, brought together voices from across the country to share ideas, experiences, and practical approaches to strengthening literacy in our communities.

The biennial conference was an amazing opportunity to learn from presenters and peers in the literacy field, from across the country.

A valuable couple of days of learning, connection, and inspiration and we’re excited to bring those insights back to our work here in Chilliwack.
