Happy Lohri, Pongal, and Makar Sankranti! Today, January 13, 2026, marks the peak of India’s vibrant harvest season, celebrated with diverse traditions across different regions.

These festivals honor the sun’s transition and the abundance of nature:
Lohri (January 13): Primarily celebrated in North India (Punjab), it features community bonfires, folk songs, and traditional treats like til (sesame) and gud (jaggery) to mark the end of peak winter.
Makar Sankranti (January 14): Celebrated across India, it marks the sun’s entry into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makara). It is famously associated with kite flying and “til-gul” sweets.
Pongal (January 14–17): A four-day Tamil harvest festival dedicated to the Sun God. Traditional activities include boiling fresh rice in milk (Pongal) and creating elaborate kolam (rangoli) designs.
Magh Bihu: Celebrated in Assam, featuring community feasts (Uruka) and the lighting of traditional “Meji” structures.

This Diwali, gather your loved ones and immerse yourselves in the magic of royal traditions from South Asia. Watch as dancers adorned in vibrant attire move in harmony with the flicker of Diyas, telling tales of prosperity, joy and light.

Our poster artwork depicts children dressed in their Diwali best, playing in the courtyard of a palace in Northern India. We enjoyed collaborating with the lovely Anu Chouhan for this project.
