Western Gold Theatre Western Gold Theatre Society is a professional non-profit theatre company with a registered tax number. It was founded in 1994 by Joy Coghill O.C.

Western Gold Theatre, founded by the renowned Joy Coghill, is a professional company of senior artists committed to producing plays of the highest quality and relevance to audiences of all ages. in response to the dearth of roles for professional senior (55+) actors in the Vancouver area. Today we include younger colleagues with our senior performers.

HAVE A SENIOR MOMENT FESTIVAL 2026 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Western Gold Theatre is seeking submissions of plays for our Have a Senior Moment! Festival running September 25 – October 4 2026.

We are seeking scripts by Canadian writers who identify as seniors/ Elders or scripts highlighting senior stories. The chosen scripts will receive a one (1) hour meeting with a dramaturge and a public reading with a maximum of four (4) actors. The reading will be filmed for archival purposes and may be included in our Virtual Gold Series.

The successful script should have one or more of the following criteria:

-Highlight and/or celebrate seniors and their stories
-Give opportunities to senior artists
-Be no longer than 90 minutes in length (60 pages, 12 point Times New Roman font)
-Be an unproduced original script
-Fulfill any of Western Gold Theatre’s Mandates or Objectives (listed below)
-Be written by a Canada based playwright or artist

We welcome and encourage submissions from playwrights from all identities, ethnicities and abilities and equity seeking groups. Western Gold Theatre seeks to engage with seniors and elders from all communities.

Note: We will accept applications from out of province playwrights; however Western Gold Theatre is unable to provide remuneration for travel and accommodations.

Western Gold Theatre welcomes submissions of alternative forms of theatre- solo show, dance, opera, musical etc but will be unable to offer additional support beyond actors and workshop directors.

The chosen playwrights will receive a minimum honorarium of $250.

Deadline to submit is July 1st, 2026.

- Please ensure that your script document is in PDF or Word format
- Please ensure that your name is only included in the email, not on the script document
- Please ensure that your script is written is 12 point Times New Roman font with regular margins.
