Since 2011, we have helped children choose over 115,000 books. is a Vancouver based registered charity formed for the purpose of getting books into the hands of children, aged one to twelve, who would not otherwise have a chance to own books. Supporting children’s literacy is one of the best investments in the future. Studies show that children who have books in their home will attain a higher edu
cation level. collects gently used children’s books from local donors and distributes these books where they are most needed, to lower income and at risk children in the lower mainland. All donated books find a home right here in our community! currently operates programs at ten venues, and our guidelines are simple. At schools, including StrongStart programs, each child may choose one free book per visit. Screened volunteers are on hand to assist or to make suggestions. Once a book is chosen the volunteer helps the child write his or her name on a bookplate which is then placed in the book. Volunteers also keep each venue stocked with a fresh and interesting supply of books. The power of owning the book is increased by the freedom to choose the book. The elementary schools we serve are selected on the advice of the Vancouver School Board Early Learning Supervisor. AS OF MAY 1, 2021 WE HAVE PLACED OVER 82,000 BOOKS WITH KIDS!
