In Genesis 28:18, Jacob's encounter on his journey underscores the use of oil in covenant experiences. Fishermen also utilized oil to tend to torn flesh after enduring harsh conditions at sea. The consistent theme is that wisdom involves preparedness; it does not wait until adversity arises but ensures that oil is available before embarking on any journey. This foresight acknowledges the inevitabilities of life—injuries occur, hardships arise, and the challenges of the journey require readiness and care.
