The Club Charter was presented to the Club’s Board of Directors in January 1954. Since 1954, our membership has consisted of many different ethnic origins, including Chinese, Irish, Scottish, English, Jewish Italian, Japanese, Korean, First Nation, among others. The Club membership peaked in 1983 with 150 members. We have supported local organizations as well as international programs such as LCIF

, CARE, Flood and Earthquake Emergency Relief. Our major fund raising programs used to be the Miss Vancouver Chinatown Pageant, Casino Night, Mercedes Draw, Lucky Leo, Mothers’ Day Carnation Sales and Gentlemen’s Night. In recent years, the Medal of Merit Award Dinner has been very successful in raising funds for the BC Cancer Foundation. The club has also made a significant commitment to Strathcona Lions Athletics Club, a Strathcona community based Track and Field Outreach programme to provide quality track and field coaching services aimed at talented but underprivileged school children. The Club provides senior housing through its 3 manors and hosts several seniors lunches every year. Each year, the Club holds a Summer Picnic, Christmas Party, Valentine’s Day Dinner and New Year’s Eve Party where members, their families and friends participate and enjoy the fun and fellowship. Lionism is sharing and caring with fun and fellowship. Since 1954, the Vancouver Chinatown Lions Club has practised their philosophy with dignity and honor.
