What makes someone a fashion revolutionary? 🌟

For Toronto-based designer Alexa Villegas ( ), fashion isn’t about being the best, or directing others to execute a pre-planned vision- it’s about coming together as a collective to bring “beautiful things to life” with intention and, above all else, love.

Considering this year’s Fashion Revolution Week theme is Collective Action, Alexa’s perspective is a powerful reminder that change cannot happen in isolation. To be a fashion revolutionary means coming together to share skills, uplift one another, and challenge the status quo to build a more sustainable and just fashion system.

Fashion Revolution Week starts tomorrow 🇨🇦✨

This map highlights some of the events taking place across Canada- from mending circles to clothing swaps to textile workshops. This week, communities are coming together to reminagine what a slower and fairer fashion industry could look like.

But remember: you can participate in FRW at any time, in any place! Mend an old pair of jeans, host a clothing swaps with friends, or just start a conversation about where your garments come from. Mending, rewearing, swapping, upcycling… these actions challenge a system built on overproduction and disposability.

And don’t miss Mend in Public Day- a powerful moment held each year in honour of the Rana Plaza disaster. Across the world, people will come together to repair what we have and reflect on the human cost of fashion systems.

We’re so excited to see how you take part! Register for events via the link in our bio 🔗

Preloved shopping is becoming a mainstream part of how Canadians shop, driven by affordability, sustainability, and the search for unique pieces.

It’s also reshaping how we value clothing. Items can be worn longer, passed between people, and kept in circulation rather than discarded.

This shift is showing up in how communities are gathering around fashion, through swaps, education, and shared storytelling.

Join the Slow Fashion Fair in Vancouver next weekend, a collaborative event where attendees can take part in panels, a career fair, a clothing swap, and the Conscious Fit Check Challenge.
