Every child matters.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never came home from residential schools, the Survivors, and their families and communities who carry this history every day.

As an organization built on the belief that every young person deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported, we recognize that this truth was denied to generations of Indigenous children. Reconciliation asks all of us to listen, learn, and act.

Our offices are closed today so our team can take time to reflect and learn. We encourage our community to do the same: wear orange, read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, and support Indigenous-led organizations.

We are grateful to live, work and serve the communities on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

September 18 is Big Brothers Big Sisters Day, and to celebrate, we’d like you to meet Big Brother Carson and Little Brother Ethan.

Mentorship always starts with showing up. But the real impact comes from showing up consistently, authentically, and being there over time.

That’s what can change a life, not just today, but for years to come. For a child, their family, and our whole community. Watch their full feature on our YouTube channel.

Today, landmarks across our region will also light up teal in recognition of the volunteer mentors who show up for young people in our communities:

✨ Canada Place Sails of Light
✨ BC Place
✨ Vancouver Convention Centre
✨ New Westminster City Hall
✨ North Vancouver City Hall
✨ Surrey Civic Plaza
✨ Coquitlam Lafarge Lake Fountain
✨ Coquitlam Pinetree Way
✨ TELUS Garden

To every mentor who makes time, builds trust, and keeps showing up: thank you!
