The time has come: RTO4 is here. As the employer begins implementing the RTO4 mandate (where office space is available), we need your help to show that workers across the country oppose this unnecessary and forced return-to-office policy. The government continues to ignore evidence and disrespect workers by making unilateral changes to remote work instead of discussing it at the bargaining table. Overwhelming evidence shows that remote work improves work-life balance, saves taxpayers money, decreases traffic and pollution, and increases productivity. Amid widespread public service cuts, it makes no sense to eliminate measures that save money and increase efficiency.
Every worker’s job and situation are unique, and a cookie cutter approach to remote work can’t be applied to the public service. This is not about a specific number of days in-office; this is about pushing to repeal the one-size-fits-none mandate and that each remote work request be reviewed on their own merit based on operational and employee needs.
There are several ways you can take action today:
PSAC digital engagements:
• Online Hub: Share ready posts graphics.
• Email Your MP tool: A ready-to-send letter to MPs.
• Member content submission form: Share photos, videos, and firsthand stories.
• Print-Your-Own templates: Stickers and posters for worksites.
o OR contact us and we can provide materials!
• Zoom and Teams backgrounds: Digital solidarity assets.
Help amplify the action:
• Share local intel about worksites facing major commuting, capacity, or logistical issues.
• Amplify the message by sharing these assets and PSAC posts across your channels, meetings, and networks. Let’s make sure workers are seen and heard.
• Organize locally! If your local would like to organize a plant gate, leaflet distribution, information picket, lunch-hour outreach, or another workplace action, we would be happy to support you. Please reach out to discuss ideas, access campaign materials, and coordinate resources.
We also need your help on the ground. If your workplace is experiencing issues related to RTO4, such as insufficient office space, long commutes, inadequate workstations, or other logistical challenges, please let us know. Hearing directly from members helps us build a stronger picture of the impact this mandate is having across the region.
