Shakti Dance Society www.shaktidancesociety.com Anusha Fernando is the Artistic Director of Shakti Dance, and began her study of Bharata Natyam in 1990.

She is the student of renowned teachers Jayalakshmi Eshwar and Jai Govinda. In 1995, she completed her Arangetram (traditional graduation performance) as a student of the Jai Govinda Dance Academy. She continues to study in both Canada and India. Anusha's work has focused on showcasing the depth of Bharata Natyam's solo repertoire and its interdisciplinary potential. In recognition of her dedicati

on to performing and disseminating Bharata Natyam, Anusha has received awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, BC Arts Council, City of Vancouver, and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute. Anusha holds an honours degree in Religious Studies from McGill University and a Master's degree in Asian Studies from UBC.

I am offering beginners and intermediate level Bharatanatyam classes at Kitsilano Community Centre again this year. Intermediate class is Mondays 7:30pm-8:30pm and beginners class is Wednesdays 7:15pm-8:15pm.

Rama Vaidyanathan + Ensemble
Sannidhanam – Sacred Spaces

Commissioned by Vancouver’s Mandala Arts and Culture in partnership with The Dance Centre Sannidhanam is a new work choreographed by the world-renowned Indian Bharatanatyam artist RAMA VAIDYANATHAN.

It is inspired by the significance of symbols in Indian philosophy, using the precise grammar and lines of Bharatanatyam to depict a sacred geometry. Performed by seven dancers including Vaidyanathan, this is an unmissable opportunity to experience the work of one of the most celebrated Bharatanatyam dancers of her generation.
