This is an opportunity to provide visionary leadership and operational oversight to a well-established provincial organization with a strong team, engaged members and a clear mandate to promote, develop and strengthen the farmers’ market sector.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14th, join Organic BC at West Coast Seeds in Delta for their Lower Mainland Gather and Grow event!

After a season that brought plenty of challenges, come together for an afternoon of sharing ideas, getting into the field, and catching up with fellow growers.

🌾 Trial plots + seed industry: Tour West Coast Seeds’ breeding plots and hear what’s happening in the seed world.
💧 Cover crops + soil health: Tanya Brouwers will dig into drought-resilient cover cropping and lead some simple, in-field soil health tests.
🧑‍🌾 Farmer roundtable: Compare notes on cover cropping, share what’s working, and learn from each other’s experiences.
🍻 Food + drinks: West Coast Seeds and Barnside Brewing have the refreshments covered.

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

Today, BC Association of Farmers' Markets honours the Survivors of residential schools, remembers the children who never returned home, and recognizes the families and communities who continue to be impacted by the residential school system.

Truth and Reconciliation requires ongoing learning, reflection, and action.

Over the past year, our organization, in collaboration with Cedar Tree Communications, has undertaken a listen + learn journey as part of our own ongoing Indigenous Reconciliation commitments. As we complete this important phase of work, we look forward to sharing our learnings and next steps with you.

Here are a few ways you can support:

• Wear an orange shirt to honour Survivors and remember the children who never returned home.

• Learn about and acknowledge the Indigenous territories where you live, work, and gather.

• Take time to learn about Indigenous histories, cultures, and the ongoing impacts of the residential school system.

May today be an opportunity to listen, learn, reflect, and continue the work of Reconciliation.

Meet Creations by Antee: Handcrafted Cedar at the Vancouver Downtown Farmers’ Market 🧡

Farmers’ markets are more than places to buy food. They are gathering spaces where communities meet the people behind the products, hear their stories, and build relationships that last well past a Sunday morning.

That idea sits at the heart of the Indigenous Vendor Program at Vancouver Farmers Markets. Launched in 2025 in partnership with Indigenous Tourism BC, the program creates opportunities for Indigenous entrepreneurs at the Downtown Farmers Market, one of Metro Vancouver’s busiest weekly marketplaces. It is one of the ways VFM is taking intentional steps on its reconciliation journey: making space, building relationships, and supporting greater visibility and economic participation for Indigenous owned businesses.

Four businesses make up the 2026 cohort. One of them is Ali Muldoe-Wells, the Gitxsan cedar artist behind Creations by Antee.

BCAFM is currently seeking nominations to fill 4 board of director positions. All positions are directors at large and are 3 year terms. The BCAFM board meets approximately 10 times per year via ZOOM, and when travelling is possible, in person once a year for a planning retreat and again in person at the BCAFM annual conference.⁠
