In response to ongoing challenges with street litter and f***s around the neighbourhood, we've installed 3 pet waste bag stations across Hastings Crossing and 3 in Gastown in collaboration with the City of Vancouver – part of a wider push to keep our streets clean. These are in addition to our own pilot dispensers. It's a companion effort to our "p**p fairy" program with (an HxBIA member social enterprise!), whose team works 5 days a week in HxBIA and Gastown to respond to street cleaning needs across the neighbourhood.

Street cleanliness is a real challenge in our area, and we're tackling it from every angle we can. Thank you to City of Vancouver, Mission Possible, United We Can, Coast Mental Health, and our other community partners for supporting our cleaning initiatives.

If your business is dealing with litter, graffiti, or other cleanliness concerns, please reach out with our incident reporting tool: hxbia.com/report

NEVER GROW UP GRAFF JAM 2026

This past weekend, Ashtrey Alley became a canvas for colour, creativity, and community for the fourth annual Never Grow Up Graff Jam. With 70 incredible artists from across the country, every inch of the wall was covered with vibrant pieces while live sets from DJs Brams and Chazzy Boo kept the energy high and turned the alley into a true celebration.

Held in honour of Trey Helten (aka Grow Up/Ashtrey), this jam carries forward the legacy of a cherished artist, mentor, and community builder whose impact on the DTES arts scene is still felt today. Trey's talent, compassion, and unstoppable energy touched countless lives, and created a space for creativity to thrive.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support! And to all the community partners that helped make it happen: Parallel 49 Beer, Fingerprint Gallery, BC Indigenous Housing, Beat Street Records & HxBIA.

This weekend: DAME presents DTES PRIDE 2026 🌈
🗓️ Saturday, August 8, 12-6pm at Balmoral Lot (+ AP at Brandiz Pub)

Did you save the date? Diversity Vancouver is bringing Pride to the heart of the DTES – a celebration built for the community, by the community.

From the organizers: The day kicks off with Indigenous poets and spoken word artists mitlaamiish and Poppa Nuge, followed by a culturally-rich drag show called Burning The Bannock, and headline performances from Prado Monroe and Mama Rude Gyal. DTES Supply Hub will be serving up hot meals for the Pride Community Feast, and Smokey D and GURL23 are leading a walking tour to take in the brand-new 2026 DTES Pride mural.

As the sun sets, the celebration moves to Brandiz Pub for an after-party featuring a vendors market, open decks, and a grand finale set from DAME DJs: DJ ANGLE, Ember Sparxx, DJ Denise, and Marcella.
