It has been one year since we announced the closure of PACE’s operations. Since then, we have been working carefully to rebuild a stronger, more sustainable organization.

Over the past year, PACE became debt-free, completed outstanding funder reporting, maintained our non-profit status, restored our charitable status, strengthened Board governance and financial oversight, rehired two former staff members, and resumed our Occupational Health and Safety Program and support services. We are also preparing to relaunch our legal clinic in fall 2026 and are now operating out of 312 Main.

We also completed a community needs assessment and strategic planning process informed by s*x workers, former PACE staff, and previous Board members. Participants were provided with honoraria, cultural safety supports, and counselling support to help make their involvement meaningful and respectful.

There is still more work ahead, but we are proud to pause and recognize how far PACE has come.

Thank you to everyone who believed in PACE, helped us through this period of rebuilding, and remains part of our journey forward 🤍

July surprise: PACE’s Occupational Health and Safety Program is back.

This peer-led program supports the health, safety, and rights of s*x workers through practical, harm reduction-based education.

The PACE Legal Clinic also returns this November.

Supported by law students from Pro Bono Students Canada under the supervision of a lawyer, the clinic will offer free legal information, referrals, resource navigation, and legal advice for s*x workers.

PACE Society is honoured and humbled to receive the 2026 Excellence in Community-Campus Research Partnership Award through the CBRCanada Awards, recognizing the PACE Society and CARE Study collaboration.

As part of this recognition, PACE has received a $5,000 award to support our continued community-based work.

CARE is a participatory action research study focused on criminalization, health equity, and community-led safety and mutual aid interventions.

This award belongs to all the
s*x workers who have shaped this work through their advocacy, care, and leadership.

CBRCanada shared that this year’s adjudication process was exceptionally competitive, with many high-caliber nominations from across Canada. The committee recognized the long-standing partnership between PACE and SFU, the strength of the projects completed through this collaboration, and the work’s deep commitment to centering s*x worker voices.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Jennie Pearson, Dr. Andrea Krüsi, and the PACE Society & CARE Study Collaboration Team for their leadership, partnership, and commitment.

On June 2, 1975, around 200 s*x workers occupied Saint-Nizier Church in Lyon, France to protest.

More than 50 years later, the fight for safety, dignity, rights, and autonomy continues.

Today, we honour the s*x workers, organizers, peer workers, and advocates who continue building community, creating safety, and fighting for justice in the face of stigma and systemic harm.

Help shape what comes next at PACE Society.

We’re inviting PACE members and s*x work community members to our upcoming engagement sessions. Share your experiences, reflect on what our community needs, and help identify priorities for rebuilding in ways that are grounded in peer leadership.

Choose the session time that works best for you:
• 10:30 AM–12:30 PM
• 2:00 PM–3:30 PM

PACE will provide a $50 honorarium, a meal and beverage, and access to free cultural and mental health supports.

The timing also aligns well with the relaunch of our Occupational Health and Safety workshops in June, helping ensure this next phase of our work is shaped by community voices.

Yesterday, community organizations, including PACE Society, released a statement expressing alarm at the City of Vancouver’s decision to eliminate one of two S*x Work Social Planner positions. These roles were created in direct response to the failures identified in the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry. It was intended to ensure that the safety and voices of s*x workers are never ignored again.

This decision does not exist in isolation. It comes in the context of years of evidence-based research and community organizing, including the “By Us, For Us” report, which highlights the complex and intersecting risks s*x workers face—from violence and stigma to the ongoing impacts of the toxic drug crisis, systemic racism, and gaps in health and social supports.

At a time when the need for coordinated, community-informed responses is clear, removing the position undermines safety, trust, and accountability.

After multiple reports, inquiries, and recommendations, centering community voices should be the bare minimum.

We are calling on the City of Vancouver to reinstate this critical position and demonstrate a real commitment to s*x worker safety.
