Our Vision:

The Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (ARCC) is "pro-choice", with a primary focus on ensuring abortion rights and access for women and transgender people capable of pregnancy (“trans”). ARCC affirms the following:

- To achieve equality, all ciswomen, non-binary, and trans men must have the right to decide for themselves whether and when they will bear children,

and how many. Without control of their fertility, they cannot have autonomy over their lives and cannot play a full and equal role in society.

- Everyone capable of pregnancy has a constitutionally-based right to unrestricted, fully-funded abortion, without legal or other barriers or discrimination due to gender, class, ethnicity, race, age, location/region (or area of residence), or any other characteristic, including reasons for choosing an abortion. The rights of pregnant persons must not be abridged— according to Supreme Court precedent, a pregnant woman is “one person”.

- Everyone has the right to receive a full range of reproductive healthcare options, services, and information, including (but not limited to) medical and surgical abortion, contraception, family planning services, and comprehensive s*xual health education.

- Everyone has the right to access reproductive healthcare services safely and in a timely manner, in an atmosphere of dignity, privacy, respect, trust, and compassion.

- All abortions are medically required—not “elective”—and fall under the protection of the Canada Health Act (just like all childbirths), regardless of where they are performed – hospitals, clinics, or doctor’s offices. The delivery and funding of abortion and other medically required reproductive healthcare services must meet the Act’s five principles.

- Providers of reproductive health care services have the right to deliver such services free of discrimination, harassment, and violence. ARCC also supports the concept of Reproductive Justice. We recognize that the s*xual and reproductive health and rights of people from many diverse communities are disproportionately affected by marginalization and oppression, including the LGBTQ community (lesbian/gay/bis*xual/transgender/queer), Indigenous communities, racialized communities, youth, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. To ensure justice, fundamental inequalities must be addressed for all. (Please see our Position Paper #100 on Reproductive Justice for more information.)

Notre Vision :

📣 There’s still a few more days to donate to our “Abortion is Healthcare” billboard campaign!

With the remaining funds we are hoping to extend our campaign with a 2-month stint in London, Ontario — but we still need your help!

We have just a few days left to raise $800 - and when you donate, you can still enter to win $100 towards a therapy session with a pro-choice therapist, courtesy of . đŸ«¶

Thanks to your support, we’ve surpassed our $5000 matching goal and have been able to put up billboards in New Brunswick, and digital ads in Burnaby, Maple Ridge, Langley, and Abbotsford, British Columbia, that reached over 116,000 people.

A city with a strong anti-choice presence, London is also home to a fierce reproductive justice movement. We are hoping to capture that spirit with a billboard that reminds its residents of the truth – abortion is healthcare!

Help us bring our message to the streets of London. Donate at the link in bio 🔗

ARCC has recently learned that two municipal councils in Alberta have provided over $14,500 of taxpayer dollars to a local Unregulated Pregnancy Centre (UPC).

Mountain View County and Town of Olds councils remain unaccountable for their 2025 grant funding of Olds and Area Pregnancy Support Centre (OAPSC), an anti-abortion organization.

The goal of the over 150 UPCs in Canada like OAPSC, is to dissuade people from accessing abortion care using deceitful tactics and misinformation. Financial support of this anti-abortion pregnancy centre from local governments will negatively impact pregnant people in the region, especially young people, newcomers, and 2S/LGBTQ+ individuals.

“As local governments, the Town of Olds and Mountain View County are both obligated to respect and uphold Canadians’ Charter and human rights. This would include not funding or rewarding organizations that undermine those rights,” says Joyce Arthur, ARCC's Executive Director.

ARCC urges both councils to terminate all funding agreements, and repay any already distributed funds in the 2025/26 grant cycles.

56 years ago, 17 women climbed into a cavalcade of cars at the Vancouver Art Gallery and drove to Parliament Hill - a landmark moment in a months-long campaign for abortion rights. 🚐

Along the way, hundreds of women joined the Abortion Caravan with the goal of drawing attention to restrictive abortion laws and the grave state of women’s reproductive rights.

Crowds of protestors marched on Parliament Hill after no-show meetings with Parliamentarians – some even chained themselves to gallery seats in the House of Commons, forcing the first adjournment of Parliament in its 103 year existence.

These efforts were instrumental in moving the needle on abortion rights, and 18 years later it would be decriminalized.

While significant progress has been made, abortion access continues to be underfunded, under attack, and out of reach for too many – especially those who are already structurally oppressed. Today, we fight anti-abortion stigma and mis/disinformation, fragmented and inadequate access to care, and political agendas that threaten our bodily autonomy.

Today we remember the power of collective organizing and its necessity to invoke monumental change as we continue the fight for reproductive rights!

Did you participate or know anyone who did? We would love to hear your stories in the comments!

Today on Red Dress Day, we honour the lives of the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2-Spirit people.

Indigenous women, girls, and 2-spirit people are disproportionately impacted by violence rooted in gendered and racialized colonialism. The result of this legacy – intergenerational trauma, social and economic marginalization, institutional inaction, and the denial of agency – has also resulted in forced sterilization, unsafe birth evacuations, and discrimination in healthcare spaces.

ARCC echoes the Calls for Justice in the National Inquiry into MMIWG and access to culturally safe, Indigenous-led healthcare as a pillar of reproductive and Indigenous justice.
