Leadership is about using your experiences to inspire others. đź’›

Last week, Ruky, one of Red Fox’s Program Coordinators, joined youth from the WRAP program in Surrey to share her leadership journey and encourage young people to believe in their potential.

Ruky brings her leadership skills not only to Red Fox programs but also to community spaces where youth can learn and grow. As a former Olympian who represented Canada at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, she understands the value of perseverance and setting goals.

WRAP is a gang prevention program that provides youth with wraparound support, helping them build positive connections and make healthy choices. Red Fox has proudly partnered with WRAP for the past ten years, working together to create opportunities for young people to thrive.

Ride Your Path is more than a bike safety program; it's an opportunity for kids and youth to build confidence, gain independence, and explore their community. 🚲

Funded by BCAA and delivered in collaboration with HUB Cycling, the program helps participants learn essential biking and road safety skills in a fun and supportive environment.

After learning the fundamentals, kids and youth take their skills into the community, riding alongside Red Fox staff and youth leaders as they explore local neighbourhoods together.

For many years, Jay Peachy has been bringing his creativity, talent, and a little bit of magic to Red Fox Active Play sessions.
Through woodcarving, making pancake art, storytelling, kids’ karaoke, and puppetry, Jay creates opportunities for kids to laugh, explore their creativity, and learn more about birds and nature.
People like Jay remind us that community is built through those who generously share their time, talents, and passion with others.
Thank you, Jay, for all the years of magic you have brought to Red Fox.
These pictures are examples of the many Red Fox programs Jay has visited throughout Metro Vancouver.

Last week, students at Queen Mary School had the opportunity to learn Smashball, a fun and engaging way to introduce volleyball while developing coordination and teamwork.
For Gabriel, a student at Queen Mary School on the North Shore, the session with Coach Justin from Volleyball Canada was about more than learning a sport.
One of his biggest takeaways was learning how to communicate better with his friends and teammates.
Thank you to Volleyball Canada and Coach Justin for making this experience possible.

Meet AgustĂn đź’›
AgustĂn is a participant in the Seed Generation program, and during the Loon Lake retreat, he participated in a workshop about relational leadership. He was selected by his peers as a leader who demonstrates the traits of relational leadership - kindness, respect, teamwork, and the ability to support and connect with others.
These are the kinds of leadership skills we encourage youth to develop through shared experiences, community, and mentorship.
Moments like these remind us that when young people are given spaces to grow and belong, they can become leaders who positively impact those around them.

Watching youth grow into leaders is one of the most meaningful parts of what we do at Red Fox. đź’›
Amir first joined Red Fox as a participant, exploring circus equipment, learning diabolo tricks, and connecting with other kids through play.
Over time, he embraced the Red Fox spirit by encouraging others, showing kindness and respect, and helping younger participants build confidence and develop new skills.
Today, Amir is a junior leader at Chartwell School on the North Shore, where he continues growing into his leadership role and giving back to younger kids in his community.
Help us continue creating spaces where youth can grow, connect, and lead by sharing Amir’s story.

Community is built through people who show up for one another. đź’›
Last week, volunteers from Whole Foods spent time at the Red Fox office helping restore and decorate the hula hoops used in our Active Play programs.
What may seem like a simple act of volunteering becomes part of something much bigger. These hula hoops will soon return to community spaces where children and youth gather to play and stay active.
We are grateful not only for the time and care of the volunteers dedicated to this project, but also for the opportunity to share more about the work Red Fox does in the community.
If your company or team would like to organize a volunteer day and help support programs for kids and youth, we would love to connect. Send us a message to learn more.

Last week, kids from the¿uuqinak’uuh Grandview School drumming group gave the drums a short break and gathered together to make bannock from scratch and prepare fresh lemonade together. 💛
Guided by our Program Manager, Suki, the group shared stories about the different occasions and celebrations where bannock is enjoyed within their communities and cultures.
Moments like these remind us that connection can also happen through food, shared teachings, and time spent together.
Through activities like these, Indigenous children and youth continue connecting with culture and one another in meaningful ways.

Last week, youth from our Seed Generation program attended the NORCECA U19 Men’s Continental Championship at Simon Fraser University.
During the event, our youth leaders participated in a workshop on how to teach Smashball, a fun and engaging way to introduce volleyball to children ages 6 to 12, and explored new ways to bring movement and teamwork into our Active Play programs.
Moments like these help youth not only learn new skills but also grow into mentors and leaders within their communities.
Thank you to Tourism Burnaby for highlighting spaces where youth can stay active, connect, and continue growing together.
