From participant to coach. From stepping outside his own comfort zone to helping others step outside theirs. ✨

Talon Nadeau first came to the Indigenous Youth Entrepreneur Summit & Job Fair as a participant. Today, he’s living out a full-circle moment as a coach for this fall's Summit, helping other Indigenous Youth build confidence, discover their strengths, and see what might be possible for their own futures.

In this short video, Talon shares how the Summit contributed to his own professional growth and why empowering others to take that same step has become such a meaningful part of his journey.

Now, he’s getting ready to do it again and lead others as he was coached to step into his power.

If you’re an Indigenous youth aged 18–35 ready to challenge yourself, build new skills, make connections and explore what comes next, applications are open.

Last year, we gathered to celebrate the hard work, commitment and achievements of our Indigenous Financial Management Certificate (IFMC) graduates. ✨

Surrounded by family, community, culture and connection, these moments remind us why capacity building matters. 💛

This September, we’ll celebrate another incredible cohort as they reach this important milestone.

Graduation is more than the completion of a program. It represents the knowledge gained, relationships built, and the impact each graduate brings back to their organizations and communities.

Here’s a look back at some special moments from last year’s celebration, and this year will be just as spectacular! We can't wait to do it all again with our new group of grads! 🎉

Behind every Audit Prep Workshop is someone passionate about helping Indigenous communities succeed. 🌱

For Sukhi Chouhan, sharing knowledge isn't just part of his profession - it's something he genuinely cares about. As President of Chouhan Accounting Ltd, Vice Chair of AFOA BC's Board of Directors and lead instructor for the Audit Prep Workshop Roadshow, Sukhi travels across British Columbia helping Indigenous finance professionals build confidence, strengthen financial governance, and prepare for audit season.

What participants appreciate most isn't just Sukhi's expertise. It's his willingness to answer questions, share practical experience, and create a welcoming environment where people feel comfortable learning and growing together.

This year's workshops also feature valuable presentations from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), bringing together practical insights and resources to support Indigenous communities across B.C.

Building strong financial systems starts with people who are willing to invest in others.

Thank you, Sukhi, for your dedication to strengthening Indigenous capacity - one workshop, one conversation, and one community at a time.

Is your Nation audit-ready? 📈

Audit preparation doesn’t begin when the auditor arrives. It starts with strong financial systems, organized documentation, and clear internal processes throughout the year.

Before audit season, take a few minutes to review:

✔ Signing authorities
✔ Financial policies
✔ Supporting documentation
✔ Records management
✔ Internal controls

A little preparation today can help reduce stress, improve efficiency, and support a smoother audit process.

Want practical guidance to help your organization prepare?

Join AFOA BC’s Audit Prep Roadshow, where Indigenous finance and administration professionals will explore practical strategies, common audit challenges, and best practices to help your Nation approach audit season with confidence.

📅 Registration is now open!
