Over the years, the Hellenic Canadian Congress has achieved its goals by establishing, promoting, and organizing a number of educational, cultural, social, and political projects and activities. Congress is a member of the national Canadian Hellenic Congress which is an umbrella organization representing in Canada and the 350,000 Greeks across Canada and a participatory member of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE). The Congress was established under the Canada Corporations Act and is continued under the authority of the Canada Not-For-Profit Corporations Act.

The Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC is deeply saddened by the passing of Yannis Sahamis.

Yannis was a beloved member of our community whose music brought people together for decades. For many years, he closed out Greek Day on Broadway, creating memories that have become part of the festival’s tradition and spirit.

Greek Day will not be the same without him. His presence, talent, and dedication to sharing Greek music and culture touched countless lives and left a lasting mark on our community.

While he will be greatly missed, his legacy will live on through the music, memories, and joy he shared with so many. We look forward to finding meaningful ways to honour his memory in the years ahead.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, fellow musicians, and all who knew and loved him.

May his memory be eternal.

Today, we proudly support Desi G, a talented local artist from British Columbia who is representing both Greece 🇬🇷 and Canada 🇨🇦 on the Eurovision stage in Greece with her song Aphrodite.

Desi’s journey has been years in the making, built on dedication, discipline, and an unwavering connection to her roots. Many in our community will remember her as the voice behind the national anthems at Greek Day on Broadway, where she has shared her talent with us on more than one occasion. Seeing her now on an international stage is a moment of pride for all of us.
