Some pay practices are better left in the history books.

Women’s History Month gives us an opportunity to recognize how workplace compensation has evolved, while also acknowledging the work still ahead. While policies and expectations have changed, building truly fair and transparent compensation practices requires continued attention and action.

Compensation Collective was created to help organizations do just that, with practical tools and guidance to help strengthen their approach to pay equity.

And thanks to funding from Women and Gender Equality Canada, there is no cost to participate.

Send this to someone who helps shape pay practices at your organization. They can learn more and join Compensation Collective through the link in our bio.

Is your organization ready for November 1?

This fall marks an important milestone for pay transparency in B.C. By November 1, 2026, provincially regulated employers with 50 or more employees in B.C. will be required to prepare an annual pay transparency report.

This October, Compensation Collective is hosting two practical, in-person learning sessions:

📅 October 16: Assess your organization’s compensation readiness and identify where to focus next.

📅 October 23: Start building a compensation philosophy to guide clearer, more consistent decisions.

Attend one or both sessions at no cost, thanks to funding from Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE).

November 1 is coming. Visit the link in our bio to sign up; space is limited.

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

Reconciliation asks us to listen, learn, and continue forward, even when we are unsure of where to begin.

As Jessie Williams, Dean, Indigenous Initiatives at Vancouver Community College reminds us, “I know it can be difficult to start because there’s a fear of getting it wrong, but I promise you, if you embrace the journey, the destination will come.”

Today and beyond September 30, we encourage our community to keep learning, listening to Indigenous voices and taking meaningful steps along the path toward reconciliation.

What would your 16-year-old self think was COOL about your life right now?

We asked our team this question and the answers were a little surprising, very fun, and a good reminder that our younger selves had some pretty big dreams. ✨

With International Day of the Girl coming up on October 11, we’re celebrating the girls who are dreaming up their futures right now and reminding them that there are SO many possibilities ahead.

Your turn! What would 16-year-old you think was coolest about your life today? Tell us in the comments!

And if there’s an amazing young woman in high school in your life, send her our way! Learning to Lead™ is Minerva’s leadership program for high school girls and gender-expansive youth. It’s a place to build confidence, discover their leadership style, make connections, and dream BIG about what comes next. 💚

The subject of money is one of the conversations women have consistently been told to keep private, or not speak about at all. But, hear us out: what if we started talking about it more openly?

As Rhogene Dadashzadeh, Minerva BC Board Member, shares, "It's not an institutional thing for us to have planned for [financial autonomy]." That makes it even more important for women to learn from one another, share trusted resources, celebrate career milestones, and normalize conversations about money.

Let's celebrate the raise. The promotion. The new business. The investment in yourself. Let's recommend the financial advisor who made a difference. Let's share what we've learned instead of keeping it to ourselves.

When women openly celebrate financial wins and support one another's growth, we help create more opportunities for ourselves and for the women coming after us.

Gender equality is not achieved by opening the door. It means removing the barriers that determine who has the opportunity to walk through it.

September 20–26 is Gender Equality Week in Canada, a time to recognize the progress that has been made while staying focused on the work ahead.

Self-identified women and gender-diverse people continue to encounter visible and invisible barriers to leadership, and meaningful progress requires more than individual ambition. It requires organizations, leaders and communities willing to examine the systems that shape opportunity.

At Minerva, we’re working to break down those barriers through leadership development, research, advocacy and collaboration with employers, creating more equitable pathways for people to lead with confidence and purpose.

This Gender Equality Week, we invite you to consider the role you can play. Challenge a barrier, champion someone’s potential, or start a conversation about what greater equity could look like in your workplace or community.

International Equal Pay Day is an opportunity to reflect on the role organizations play in building fair, transparent compensation practices.

As an HR, People, or compensation professional, your work shapes more than salaries. It shapes trust, transparency, and the employee experience. Every compensation decision is an opportunity to build consistency, reduce bias, and strengthen confidence in your organization's approach to pay.

What is one step your organization has taken to advance pay equity this year? Share it in the comments. Your experience could help another organization take the next step.

Join Compensation Collective at no cost to access practical resources, connect with peers, and stay informed on the ever-evolving world of compensation. This project is funded by the Government of Canada.

It’s often the everyday moments that tell us the most about workplace culture.

As part of our team, we’re always learning from one another, and sometimes it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on what those experiences can teach us.

For kim who has been with the Minerva team for nearly six months, one thing has stood out: “What I’ve appreciated the most since starting at Minerva is the intentional effort to build a team culture rooted in kind, empathetic and human relationships.”

1. Make time to understand the person, not just the role. Taking an interest in someone’s passions, goals and areas for growth can set the tone from day one.
2. Protecting time for deeper thinking and making space to connect as people - they all add up.
3. Growth is something we can support in one another. As Vanessa shared, “It’s the little actions paired with a desire to see each other grow and succeed.”

We’re so grateful to have Vanessa as part of the Minerva team and for the perspective she brings to what it means to build a thoughtful, collaborative and inclusive workplace.
