June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

At CHF BC, we acknowledge that housing co-ops exist on the traditional and unceded territories of Indigenous Peoples throughout British Columbia. This month is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and deepen our understanding of the histories and ongoing experiences of Indigenous communities.

We encourage our members to take time this month to listen, learn, and engage with Indigenous voices, stories, and perspectives.

What happens when co-op members from across BC come together to learn, share, and connect?

Spring Forum 2026 reminded us that strong communities start with neighbourly connections.
From Jessica Barrett's keynote on Canada's housing crisis to workshops on aging in place, risk management, and community-building, members left inspired and full of ideas to take back to their co-ops.

Read the full recap:

On May 24, co-op members, leaders, staff, and sector partners from across British Columbia gathered for CHF BC’s Spring Forum 2026. Guided by the theme Community Starts Next Door: Where neighbourly connections build community, the day explored how everyday connections between neighbours create str...

CHF BC staff and board members are among the BC delegates at the CHF Canada AGM this week.

They're in full support of engaging in a national campaign for the continuation of the rental assistance program as a permanent component of federal housing funding.

Housing co-ops are one of Canada’s most successful affordable housing models. Federal rental assistance allows co-ops to provide deeply affordable homes to those that need it, while keeping the co-op buildings in good shape and financially sustainable - because the most affordable housing is the housing that already exisits.

Renewing rental assistance will safeguard thousands of homes and strengthen mixed-income communities across Canada.

Building a strong co-op starts with strong community. 🌱

Over the past months, we’ve been working alongside members of Sawmill Housing Co-op through workshops and information sessions focused on co-op governance, collaboration, and community leadership.

Earlier this year, members reached an exciting milestone by electing their inaugural Board of Directors, an important step in building a thriving, member-led community. Congratulations to everyone involved! 👏🏡 Community Land Trust

New co-op homes are now open in East Vancouver! We're thrilled to see this community grow and thrive, and our Co-op Services team has already started working with members as they prepare to form their first board.

More than 100 new co-op homes are now complete in East Vancouver, providing secure, community-focused housing for individuals and families in the Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood. Developed in partnership with the City of Vancouver, the Province, through BC Housing, and Community Land Trust, McHardy....

Last week, members of the Australian Co-operative Housing Alliance began a Canadian co-op tour. Their first stop? Vancouver, of course.

We toured several Community Land Trust properties together and discussed the many similarities between co-ops here and Down Under.

A core principle of international co-operatives is cooperation among co-operatives. We recently put our commitment to this important principle on display by touring some of our Australian counterparts, sharing ideas and successful initiatives we’ve taken, primarily through the Community Land Trust...

🏳️‍🌈 At CHF BC, we celebrate Pride not only in June, but all year round.

Co-operative housing is built on values of inclusion, equity, respect, and community, creating spaces where people can be themselves, feel safe, and truly belong.

Diversity strengthens our co-ops, and we are proud to support communities that welcome and celebrate people of all identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Together, we continue working toward a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and be treated with dignity and respect.

This Pride Month and every month, we stand with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and celebrate the diversity that makes our co-operative communities stronger. 🌈
