Highs and Lows Choir

Founded in 1993, the Highs & Lows provide singing opportunities to those who experience mental illness, their friends and allies. We recognize that there are numerous barriers that prevent individuals from engaging in community activities. As a result, we are committed to making participation in the choir easy for anyone who wants to come and sing with us. There is no choir uniform, and there are

no auditions. We create an inclusive and supportive environment for all of our members. Singing is an outlet that allows us to be who we are without judgment. For many of us, singing boosts our mood and gives us an opportunity to connect with people in a fun and supportive environment. Sometimes, the choir is the only reason we get outside to leave our homes. We can be social, challenge ourselves and feel a sense of achievement. This is extremely important, as some mental health conditions can make it hard to participate in social activities and interactions. We also offer support to each other - if someone doesn't turn up to choir, someone will check in with them to see how they're doing. Finally, we ensure that our venues are accessible to people with physical a well as mental challenges.
