The Vancouver Free Market

The Vancouver Free Market Every two weeks, the Free Market celebrates life without money at Grandview Park, Vancouver, BC Every two weeks, the Free Market celebrates life without money.

We do it to build community, share skills, food, ideas and things with each other. We do it to express our rejection of the current economic, capitalist, consumerism-created spiral we are traveling down down down. Come play! You are encouraged to make this your own, and participate in whatever ways you see fit. Offer a massage, scribble a poem, teach a dance, fix a bike...everybody has something t

o give and the more we share the richer we all are. Remember that things do sometimes get up and walk away at the Free Market (I mean, when something's called the Free Market, why WOULDN't that purse be free?) so don't bring stuff you don't wanna lose. You certainly don't need to bring your purse! Just a wagon to haul away your treasures. This event takes place on traditional, unceded, occupied ancestral homelands of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations. As settlers uninvited to these lands we as organizers acknowledge that we are unable to do anti-racist work without using its resources and are complicit in a colonial system that perpetuates violence against Indigenous Peoples. We want to extend meaningful solidarity by fighting against the ongoing genocide, environmental racism, and violence of the indigenous peoples in these lands.
