🎉🎶 SUMMER CONCERTS THIS MONTH 🎶🎉
We can't wait to collaborate again with and on the 2026 edition of this summer pops concert, featuring four amazing vocalists and the VICO Chamber Ensemble. In fact, we love this programme so much that we are doing it TWICE:

1. GRANDVIEW PARK PLAYLIST
Thursday August 20 at 8 pm
Grandview Park (Commercial Drive at Charles St.)
FREE outdoor concert (bring a lawn chair or a blanket)!

2. MIDSUMMER MIX TAPE
Friday August 21
Green Timbers Covenant Church in Surrey

The programme weaves together songs from Chinese, Persian, Balkan, Celtic, and Métis cultures into a fresh, uniquely Canadian tapestry of sound - exploring the concept of freedom and the many ways in which this can be felt, represented, and sung across musical cultures.

Vocalists D'arcy Han (Z**i), Shireen Nabatian, Kathleen Nisbet and Amy Stephen will each perform a colourful selection of folk/pop/contemporary songs arranged specially for this concert, accompanied by a unique instrumental ensemble featuring Molly MacKinnon (violin), Laine Longton (cello), Dai Lin Hsieh (zheng), Mike Brown (bass clarinet), Saina Khaledi (santour), Amy Stephen (accordion/harp), and Jonathan Bernard (percussion).

We are so back!!! Thrilled to be collaborating with our friends VICO and Rumble Theatre for a second year of GRANDVIEW PARK PLAYLIST, a free outdoor summer concert. ☀️ 🎶

This free outdoor concert promises a beautiful evening of intercultural music: the perfect playlist for a summer evening on the Drive. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair, and join us in the park!

🎶 Artist Spotlight: .sound

Robyn Jacob is a composer, performer and educator living on the unceded Musqueum, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish territories. In her composition practice she has worked with Grammy winning Third Coast Percussion, Grammy winning Sō Percussion, Chor Leoni, and others. Crafting emotive narratives using the voice and electronics, Immix is Robyn Jacob’s burgeoning solo project. The core of Immix’s material explores the possibilities held in the use of limited means. Exploring the vocoder/harmonizer as its own instrument, the resulting songs dance between the vulnerability of the human voice and the potential of an emergent vocabulary hidden within the glitch and grain of synthesized voice.

🎶 Artist Spotlight: Maggie Hasspacher

Maggie Hasspacher is a bassist, vocalist and composer based in Vancouver, BC. She is principal bass of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra and plays regularly with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. As a composer, she wrote and recorded the film music for PBS show Craft in America seasons 2024 and 2025. As a multimedia artist, she releases original music, animations and stop-action films through her co-created label Purple Mollusk Music. Hasspacher was a member of grammy-nominated new music group Wild Up from 2010-2020 and continues to perform new music as a soloist and collaborator, premiering and commissioning over a dozen new works for the bass from composers such as Timo Andres, Paul Brantley and Sarah Gibson. She performed the Canadian premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s concerto for bass, Dark with Excessive Bright, as a part of the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra’s 2024-2025 season and premiered 10 new works in February 2026 for bass/soprano/soprano duo with singer Dory Hayley in collaboration with Vancouver Pro Musica. She enjoys perfecting an original oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookie recipe with her 3 kids, too.

Join Little Chamber Music on May 8th at the Hargrove for “Getting Somewhere”: an intimate night of sonic explorations from two of Vancouver’s most innovative voices. Featuring back to back solo sets by IMMIX and Maggie Hasspacher, this concert spotlights original works by both artists as well as contemporary composers Dubrakov Pajalic, Paul Brantley and Keith Emmanuel Miller.

Kicking off the evening is IMMIX, a solo project from Robyn Jacob for voice and electronics. Using a harmonizer/vocoder as a means to support emotive narratives, IMMIX inhabits the space between emergent technologies and humanism, between glitch and storytelling.

Bassist Maggie Hasspacher explores the huge range of sonic possibilities for her instrument with gorgeous original works for bass and voice alongside contemporary compositions for solo bass. A virtuosic instrumentalist, vocalist and multifaceted artist, Maggie’s original music will be performed alongside her own original stop motion animations.
