ONE TO ONE Literacy

ONE TO ONE Literacy is recruiting volunteer reading tutors for the 2026–27 school year!

Help foster a love of reading and build a young learner’s confidence by joining one of our in-person or virtual after-school reading programs.

Volunteer tutors work one-to-one with elementary school students during a weekly 2-3 hour shift, from November 2026 to May 2027. We provide the training, materials, and ongoing support you need to make a meaningful difference.

If you love reading, have a passion for education, or want to stay active in your community, we would love to hear from you!

What a fun afternoon today at our Spelling Bee Challenge! As you can see, the ONE TO ONE staff enjoyed many great moments with our community today. And who doesn't love a photo booth! Thank you to everyone who supported us in both the lead up to and the event itself. It was successful on all counts and we are thrilled to have brought back a beloved fundraiser event after a hiatus. We can't wait to do it all again in 2027, and bring this back as an annual tradition.

With your support we are bridging the gap from learning to read to loving to read.

We will share more about the event with you as we continue to tally up funds raised and sort through all our photos. Stay tuned!

As part of our Artist Spotlight series for the Spelling Bee Challenge silent auction, we are excited to feature artists whose generosity is helping support children’s literacy programs across B.C.

Today, we are proud to highlight Brianne Noel. Brianne studied Illustration at Emily Carr University for four years, where she first discovered her passion for mixed media art. Through the layering of materials, textures, and techniques, she explores themes of darkness and beauty, femininity, and mysticism. Her work invites viewers into an enchanting yet unsettling world, where fae-inspired imagery intertwines with an undercurrent of mystery and fear.

Today, we are proud to highlight Surnoor Singh. Based in the Lower Mainland, BC, Surnoor is a visual artist working with watercolors, oils, and photo-based art. Surnoor shares his work via periodic exhibitions, private studio visits, and an inner circle newsletter. You can visit his website to explore the archive of past work or connect on Instagram for behind-the-scenes updates.

His painting, ‘Mustard Fields,’ was created in 2020 for the anonymous art show at Braid St Studios, hosted by Susan Greig. As his first group show participation in Canada, this piece holds special value as Srnoor’s visual vocabulary has changed since, making this a unique piece in his portfolio.
