The Power of Sport to Fuel Climate Action !

This World Environment Day, Beyond Hoops Africa brought together youth and adults in the D**oretti community to celebrate the role sport can play in advancing climate action and environmental stewardship.

The day began with a leadership circle before participants gathered at Lenana School Primary to plant trees and help reclaim green spaces within the school and community. Through this hands-on activity, BHA team, young people and community members demonstrated that climate action starts with local action.

Following the tree planting, participants took part in an exciting lacrosse introduction clinic led by Lynatt Sports coaches. The clinic highlighted how sport can serve as a powerful platform to engage communities, inspire action, and connect people around shared goals.

As we celebrate this year’s World Environment Day theme, we are reminded that protecting our environment requires collective effort. By creating greener spaces and empowering the next generation of environmental stewards, we are investing in a healthier and more sustainable future for all.

This year’s World Environment Day, themed , brings us together with youth to celebrate through movement, learning, and care for our planet. We’ll introduce the exciting game of lacrosse through a community clinic, while also stepping into action by planting trees beginning the work of restoring green spaces in our schools and neighbourhoods.

Through sport and stewardship, we affirm a simple truth: the power of can fuel real climate action.

We are excited for the new look of our Dare to Dream Centre. Access to a safe space for children and youth is a necessity. We take it as an obligation to ensure our youth can gather, be inspired, encouraged, and supported to navigate the complex issues that often come with growing up in communities with limited resources. When caring and responsible adults show up consistently, they become the game changers, helping young people feel seen, heard, and valued while providing the encouragement and support they need to dream bigger and build brighter futures.
