The Andrés Project

The Andrés Project We hope that one day the stigma and discrimination associated with this illness will end. He was only 23 years old.

The Andrés Project was founded in August 2015 as a way to support our neighbors in the Down Town East Side as well as to work towards the education that surrounds addiction and Mental Illness. Our Nephew, Andrés Parra, passed away on May 11, 2007 from a drug overdose after spending a long time living along Main & Hastings street. He went from shelter to shelter, friend’s homes and even strangers,

to living on the street behind dumpsters. Every six weeks, or so, we deliver 130 bags of toiletry items and socks to those in need who are living in the Down Town East Side. Each bag also has a hand written message of HOPE. Our “Bags of Hope” consist of the following travel-sized items:
Shampoo
Conditioner
Soap
Hand/Body Lotion
Toothpaste
Toothbrush
Deodorant
Wet Wipes
And Socks

Thank You for your support,

Dear Friends, family and supporters of The Andrés Project,
You probably have noticed that for a while now, we have not posted any activities of our project. Unfortunately, when Covid hit, it changed the way we did things, and we stopped our activities that we so much loved.
We did manage to donate blankets, socks and sleeping bags to other organizations that worked directly with those who called DTES home over the 2 last years.
Today, we made our final donation of $3,000 to the Union Gospel Mission, which were funds that we had left in The Andrés Project bank account. By doing so today, our donation will be matched by an anonymous donor, and we are sure that this contribution will help those who most need it.
Our Board of Directors have made a decision to close The Andrés Project, but we will continue, in our own aways, to raise awareness and advocate for those who are suffering with mental health/addiction.
We could have not helped so many people without all of you and we want to say, once again, thank you for all your support.
We kindly ask you to continue to spread love and support to those facing challenges beyond their control and a pair of dry socks for someone on the street means a lot to them.
If you can, keep giving! Even a smile can change someone’s day.
Happy New Year!

After being on hold for over 2 years, due to COVID-19, The Andrés Project was quick to respond & provide some basic needs for the nearly 150 people that were affected by the Winters Hotel fire yesterday. We rushed to our storage locker & started gathering toiletries & socks. The items were then delivered to Atira Women's Resource Society, to be distributed to those in need. They are located at Main & Cordova. If you have donations, please drop them off there, or if you have large quantities of donations, please message us to schedule a pick-up. Every donation means so much to those in need. Thank You 🙏
