Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Vancouver Local Immigration Partnership Forum on March 25th.
We are truly grateful for the time you took to engage in thoughtful discussions, share your experiences, and collaborate on ideas that will strengthen the ecosystem supporting newcomer integration in our region.
A special thank you to Antonia Dorans, IRCC for the insightful opening remarks, and to our esteemed panelists: Dr Daljit Gill-Badesha. (AMSSA), Hout (UBC Centre for Migration),@ Ashely Grewal (Vancity), and Jennifer Freeman (PeaceGeeks). Your expertise and perspectives greatly enriched the conversation. Panel moderated by Koyali Burman.

Discussion on the what are some of the biggest barriers newcomers are facing today in BC or Vancouver that may not have existed 5–10 years ago?; how do we move from simply collecting data to actually using it to inform decision-making and create meaningful change?; Is collaboration truly the foundation of the immigration and settlement system? Is innovation in the settlement sector still a choice—or has it become a necessity? etc..

Thank you to Joni Rose (BC Government), and to Carla Suarez and Amelia Huang from the City of Vancouver for joining us. We are grateful for the presence of representatives from all levels of government.
We also extend our appreciation to the Newcomer Immigrant Advisory Table presenters, Calvin Trung Nguyen and Gabriel Mugaruka, for sharing their settlement journey through their rap video, as well as to all other presenters, volunteers, and the incredible VLIP team for making this event a meaningful.

This full-day forum will feature highlights by panel, artistic expressions by newcomers, interactive workshops, mapping, networking and a Co-Lab session.
Together, participants will explore innovative practices, build meaningful connections, and access to resources from organizations across sectors.

Cross-sector collaboration and a GBA+ lens will be embedded throughout the event, supporting inclusive, equitable, and impactful solutions for newcomers.

Community, connection, and collaboration!
On January 24, VLIP teamed up with Burnaby Community Connectors at the MOSAIC Board Fair, sharing a table and lots of great conversations with community members and SCOPE graduates who are curious about leadership, volunteering, and making a difference
From answering questions to exchanging resources and stories, it was inspiring to see so many people interested in building stronger, more inclusive communities. Huge thanks to MOSAIC for hosting such a welcoming space—and to everyone who stopped by to connect with us!
