🧥 Round Up & Restock: Urgent Need for Coats & Outerwear

Fall is here, and with cooler days and rainy mornings ahead, warm outerwear is one of the most requested items in our boutique. Right now, our racks are running low, and we need your help!

Round up your gently used coats and jackets to help us restock our racks for the season. Your donation helps every woman who walks through our doors stay warm, feel confident and arrive at interviews and new jobs ready for success.

Drop-offs are by appointment on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Book your drop-off on our website.

Join us on Thursday, October 15 at 5:30 pm for a free workshop with Michele Thomson, Registered Nurse turned Workplace Culture Specialist and Executive Coach.

We'll cover:
- Recognizing the patterns of people-pleasing
- Saying no and setting boundaries without guilt
- Giving honest feedback, without over-explaining
- Separating self-worth from other people’s approval

We are proud to recognize Marian Stack as our September Volunteer of the Month.

Marian Stack has been volunteering with Dress for Success Vancouver since January 2024, and she couldn’t be happier that she chose to be part of the Dress for Success Vancouver community.

For Marian, volunteering is about helping women from all walks of life build confidence, recognize their talents, and reach their full potential. She is especially motivated by the opportunity to support women as they take their next steps and discover their own strengths.

Marian also keeps coming back for the people. She describes the Dress for Success Vancouver team as positive, helpful, and wonderfully organized — and she has loved meeting people from around the world through her volunteer experience.

One of the most rewarding parts of volunteering, she says, is seeing the gratitude clients leave with after their dressing appointments. And sometimes, that gratitude comes in the form of a big hug.

We’re so grateful to have Marian as part of the Dress for Success Vancouver family.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we are dedicated to honouring Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities, and recognizing the lasting impacts of Canada’s Residential School system.

Our work supports women and gender-diverse individuals from all backgrounds and walks of life to establish or re-establish themselves in careers that provide them with confidence, community, and economic independence, including Indigenous Canadians.

The photo used in this image is from CIRA’s Indigenous stock photo library project, which seeks to provide stock imagery of Indigenous professionals and entrepreneurship, addressing the Indigenous representation gap. This is just one small way we are moving in alignment with the Call to Action 80 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Every fourth week of September, we celebrate how far women have come, honour their achievements, and acknowledge the gaps that we are still working on closing.

At Dress for Success Vancouver, we see what gender equality looks like up close. It's a woman walking into an interview feeling like herself. It's a first paycheque, a promotion, a career that finally fits. It's so much more than just clothes. It's the economic independence and the confidence that comes with it.

Gender Equality Week became law in 2018 through the Gender Equality Week Act, but for the women and gender-diverse individuals we serve, the work happens every single day. And every step forward is worth celebrating.

Ying sent out over 150 resumes in eight months — with no response. As a self-described "96 per cent introvert," finding a job in Vancouver felt impossible.

Then a WorkBC staff member told her about Dress for Success Vancouver. At her styling appointment, a volunteer helped her find clothes that fit not just the job she wanted, but who she is.

"Looking at myself in the mirror, I felt amazing. I have never seen myself like that before. I was confident and I felt like I could do anything."

Ying landed the job — and eight years later, she's still thriving in that role, now giving back as a Dress for Success ambassador and volunteer.

"I am no longer hidden. People see me — and finally, so do I." 💛
