Métis Elders and Seniors, we want to hear from you!

Last year, your wisdom helped us form the Elders Advisory Circle. That’s why the MNBC Ministry of Elders is pleased to share the launch of our second province-wide Elders & Seniors Survey, open from June 1, 2026, to July 1, 2026.

This survey will help shape the work plan for the Elder Advisory Circle, so your voice will directly guide the work ahead.

Take the survey now or share with any Elders/Seniors in your community. Participants who complete the survey will be entered for a chance to win one of the three $100 Walmart gift cards!

On June 3, 2019, the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls released its final report, Reclaiming Power and Place, along with 231 Calls for Justice.

The report laid bare the ongoing violence experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people across Canada, while also highlighting the strength, leadership, and resilience of survivors, families, and communities who carried these truths forward.

More than five years later, families, advocates, and communities continue to call for urgent action and accountability. The Calls for Justice are not recommendations, they are legal and moral imperatives rooted in human rights, Indigenous rights, and the lived realities of those impacted by violence.

At the Moose Hide Campaign, we believe ending gender-based violence requires all of us to listen, learn, reflect, and take meaningful action in our communities. This work must continue beyond moments of recognition and remain grounded in respect, responsibility, and care.

We encourage everyone to take time to read the report, learn the Calls for Justice, and support the ongoing work being led by Indigenous families, survivors, and communities.

The BC Métis Federation is hosting a commemoration event on Louis Riel Day—Sunday, November 16. The event is being held at the BCMF office in Vancouver (390-3665 Kingsway) from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

A short video will be shown that discusses Riel’s life, illuminating how he and the Métis were much more involved in state-making than historians have previously acknowledged. It is from McMaster Humanities and features Dr. Max Hamon who authored “The Audacity of His Enterprise, Louis Riel and the Métis Nation That Canada Never Was, 1840–1875“.

The event will also provide a space for individuals to speak to their family connections to Louis Riel and to the legacy that his ex*****on has had on Métis communities and families.

In the spirit of reconciliation, all are welcome.

- Snacks and refreshments provided

"The Moose Hide Campaign began as a BC-born Indigenous-led grassroots movement to engage men and boys in ending violence towards women and children. It has since grown into a nationwide movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians from local communities, First Nations, governments, schools, colleges/universities, police forces and many other organizations – all committed to taking action to end this violence."

Save the Date: Moose Hide Campaign Day – Thursday, May 14, 2026

Across Turtle Island, people will once again come together in ceremony, reflection, and action to stand up against gender-based violence.

Every year, Moose Hide Campaign Day invites schools, workplaces, and communities to walk, fast, and gather in a shared commitment to reconciliation and safety for women, children, and all those along the gender continuum.

Mark the date in your calendar and stay tuned to our social media channels for updates on workshops, livestreams, and ways to participate in 2026.

Together, we’re walking toward a future free from violence.
