As we celebrate Pride, we also honour the elders whose courage built the communities we know and loveβ€”and recognize that the work isn't over.

Pride is possible because generations of 2SLGBTQIA+ people fought for the right to live openly, authentically, and with dignity. At Living With Pride, we're working toward a future where every 2SLGBTQIA+ older adult can age with dignity, safety, connection, and belonging.

πŸ“ Visit us at Surrey Pride on June 20 from 1–6 PM to learn more about our work, meet our team, and discover how you can help create more inclusive communities for 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors.

Will we see you there? πŸ’œπŸŒˆ

🌈 Come visit Living with Pride Foundation at Surrey Pride!

πŸ—“οΈ June 20
⏰ 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM
πŸ“Central City Plaza

The Pride we celebrate today exists because 2SLGBTQIA+ elders fought for visibility, rights, acceptance, and the freedom to live authentically. As they age, many 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors continue to face social isolation, discrimination in care settings, and barriers to finding affirming housing and support services.

That's why housing, community, and aging with dignity are Pride issues. Everyone deserves to grow older with safety, connection, and a sense of belonging.

Visit our booth to learn how we're working to create a future where 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors can age with dignity, connection, and pride. PLUS join a chance to win a prize and be featured on our social media as we celebrate Pride across generations!

See you there πŸ’œπŸŒˆ

🌈 🧑 Welcome to Part 2 of our Two-Spirit feature as part of our Pride Month series, where we're exploring the histories, identities, and legacies of q***r communities across cultures, nations, and generations.

Two-Spirit people have always existed. While colonial systems attempted to suppress Indigenous understandings of gender, sexuality, and identity, Two-Spirit people have continued to carry their stories, traditions, and knowledge forward.

One powerful way these stories are being shared today is through film and other forms of creative expression. Works like Wildhood (2021) help create space for Indigenous q***r and Two-Spirit people to see themselves reflected on screen. These stories not only celebrate identity and resilience, but also invite audiences to learn from perspectives that have too often been overlooked.

Representation and storytelling matter. And supporting Indigenous creators is one way we can help ensure these voices continue to be heard.

This Pride Month, we invite you to learn, listen, and celebrate Two-Spirit voices.

🌱 This Week's Invitation:
Watch Wildhood or explore another Two-Spirit film, book, artist, or creator. Take time to engage with stories that deepen your understanding of Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ experiences, and comment what you've learned down below!

🌈 Welcome to our Pride Month series, where we'll be exploring the histories, identities, and legacies of q***r communities across the globe. Throughout June, we'll be highlighting stories that remind us that gender and sexual diversity have existed across cultures, nations, and generations.

For our first post, we're celebrating Two-Spirit identities and the rich Indigenous traditions that recognize diverse expressions of gender, sexuality, spirituality, and community.

Long before colonization, many Indigenous nations across Turtle Island recognized and honoured people who lived beyond a strict male/female binary. Indigenous languages held their own words and understandings for these identities, reflecting longstanding traditions of respect, responsibility, and belonging.

Two-Spirit people have continued to carry forward knowledge, stories, and ways of being. Today, Two-Spirit remains a powerful expression of identity, self-determination, cultural connection, and community.

This Pride Month, we honour the generations of Indigenous people who have carried Two-Spirit traditions forward, and we celebrate the vibrant communities, artists, leaders, and knowledge keepers who continue to identify with and share these traditions today.

Stay tuned for Part 2. πŸ§‘πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

Today, we're proud to introduce our non-profit organization, the Living With Pride Foundation!

Founded in 2022, our mission is to empower 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors through inclusive housing, supportive services, advocacy, and community connection.

Too many older members of our community continue to face housing insecurity, isolation, and discrimination. We believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home – and a community where they can thrive.

Through our vision for Nelly's House and future initiatives, we're working to create affirming spaces where 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors can age with dignity, pride, and belonging.

πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ Pride in every home. Equality in every heart.

Stay tuned for an introduction to Nelly’s House πŸ‘€
