A pioneer in circular denim has filed for bankruptcy. So, what does that mean for the future of sustainable fashion? 👖♻️

On August 5, MUD Jeans announced its bankruptcy after years of pushing the denim industry toward a more circular model, from its groundbreaking "Lease A Jeans" program to take-back, repair, resale, and denim made with post-consumer recycled cotton.

Brands working to transform fashion are often expected to compete with conventional companies while also taking on the costs of responsible production, better materials, repair programs, recycling infrastructure, and take-back systems.

MUD Jeans showed us what a more circular denim industry could look like. Its bankruptcy now leaves the industry with an important question: How do we build sustainable fashion models that are innovative enough to create change and resilient enough to survive?

Today is Earth Overshoot Day... meaning that we have used up all of the resources that the Earth can regenerate this year. Until December 31st, we will be living on "ecological credit."

France has become the first country to pass legislation specifically targeting ultra-fast fashion, marking a major shift in how governments are addressing overproduction, waste, and the environmental impact of the fashion industry. 🇫🇷

The new law introduces advertising restrictions for ultra-fast fashion companies, environmental fees tied to products, and stronger accountability measures for brands built on rapid product turnover. While companies like Shein and Temu are the primary focus, the legislation has also sparked debate over whether it goes far enough. 🤔💚

Whether this becomes a global turning point or is just the first step, it is clear that fashion sustainability is moving from voluntary commitments to public policy.

On June 23, 2026, the UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) banned misleading "recycled" clothing ads from Adidas, Uniqlo, and Calvin Klein. ♻️

All 3 brands failed to prove that their advertised products were entirely made from recycled materials as their ads had insinuated. The UK watchdog deemed these ads misleading to the consumer, and requested the immediate removal of the ads. 👀
