It’s Circular Economy Month! ♻️

October is a chance to rethink how we use resources, reduce waste, and imagine what a more circular fashion system could look like.

From repair and reuse to remaking, recycling, and better design, circularity asks us to rethink the entire fashion system, not just what happens to our clothes when we’re done with them.

Circular doesn’t automatically mean just. Who benefits? Who bears the environmental and social costs? Whose knowledge shapes these systems?

This Circular Economy Week ( ), Threading Change and The Mend are coming together for an evening celebrating the stories behind the clothes we keep - the pieces that have been repaired, passed down, thrifted, upcycled, travelled with us, or simply hold a memory we’re not ready to let go of.

Bring a meaningful item of clothing, accessory, or textile and share its story for 2–5 minutes at our open mic, or simply come along to listen, connect, and celebrate. No public speaking experience needed, and sharing is completely optional!

Expect a styling challenge, sustainable fashion open mic, special performance, DJ & mingling, and more.

Are you a young person (16-35) in the UK/EU who are working or volunteering in the ethical fashion space and keen to make a positive impact? We want to hear from you!

Starting on Monday, Sept 21st, Threading Change will be hosting online gatherings called ‘Fashion Changemakers Monthly Connect’, a space to meet other like-minded youth working in the industry, share ideas and updates, find common ground, and collaborate for a better fashion future.

For our inaugural meeting, we‘ll introduce the different collectives and map out our unique initiatives and event offerings ahead of Sustainable Fashion Week and Circular Economy Month this autumn.

The second half of the meeting will be focused on aligning on some shared answers with some upcoming industry engagements to ensure that we’re adequately representing the UK/EU youth voice to change fashion for the better.

A pioneer in circular denim has filed for bankruptcy. So, what does that mean for the future of sustainable fashion? 👖♻️

On August 5, MUD Jeans announced its bankruptcy after years of pushing the denim industry toward a more circular model, from its groundbreaking "Lease A Jeans" program to take-back, repair, resale, and denim made with post-consumer recycled cotton.

Brands working to transform fashion are often expected to compete with conventional companies while also taking on the costs of responsible production, better materials, repair programs, recycling infrastructure, and take-back systems.

MUD Jeans showed us what a more circular denim industry could look like. Its bankruptcy now leaves the industry with an important question: How do we build sustainable fashion models that are innovative enough to create change and resilient enough to survive?

Today is Earth Overshoot Day... meaning that we have used up all of the resources that the Earth can regenerate this year. Until December 31st, we will be living on "ecological credit."

France has become the first country to pass legislation specifically targeting ultra-fast fashion, marking a major shift in how governments are addressing overproduction, waste, and the environmental impact of the fashion industry. 🇫🇷

The new law introduces advertising restrictions for ultra-fast fashion companies, environmental fees tied to products, and stronger accountability measures for brands built on rapid product turnover. While companies like Shein and Temu are the primary focus, the legislation has also sparked debate over whether it goes far enough. 🤔💚

Whether this becomes a global turning point or is just the first step, it is clear that fashion sustainability is moving from voluntary commitments to public policy.
