๐Ÿ“ Chinese Benevolent Association (CBA)
108 East Pender Street | Built in 1909

๐Ÿฎ A building where people once came for healthcare, school, community support โ€” and even the fight for equal rights.

Built in 1909, the Chinese Benevolent Association Building is recognized as one of the earliest examples of Vancouver Chinatownโ€™s mature โ€œChinatown styleโ€ โ€” blending a grand granite faรงade with **recessed balconies inspired by South China**.

Over the decades, the CBA became a hub for the community: providing medical care, supporting Chinese schools, advocating for voting and immigration rights, and helping shape traditions like Vancouverโ€™s Chinese New Year Parade.

โœจ More than a heritage building โ€” itโ€™s over a century of Chinatown history in one address.

๐Ÿฎ The 24th BMO Vancouver Chinatown Festival has come to a close โ€” and what a weekend it was.

Two days of live performances, cultural experiences, family moments and neighbourhood magic. Vancouver Chinatown showed the world exactly what it's made of โ€” and we couldn't be prouder.

To everyone who came out and celebrated with us โ€” thank you. โค๏ธ

To our performers who brought the stages to life across two incredible days โ€” thank you.

To the families who filled the Children's Theatre with laughter, who spun the Panda surPRIZE Machine and raced around Chinatown hunting for Van Van โ€” thank you.

To our participating Chinatown businesses, community partners, presenting sponsor BMO, and every volunteer who made this weekend possible โ€” thank you. This Festival exists because of you.

Chinatown has been welcoming the world for over a century. This July, it did it all over again. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

See you at the 25th. ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿฎ

Thank you for celebrating with us. Share your favourite memory in the comments. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Chin Wing Chun Society
160 East Pender Street | Built in 1925

Next time youโ€™re on East Pender, look up. ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿฎ Thereโ€™s more to this building than meets the eye.

Built in 1925, the Chin Wing Chun Society Building stands out for its recessed balconies inspired by Southern Chinese architecture, blended with Western classical details โ€” a signature look of Vancouver Chinatown.

The building was also a home base for the Chin, Chan and Chen surname community, offering a place to meet, connect and support one another during a time of widespread discrimination.

Nearly 100 years later, itโ€™s still here.

โœจ Next time you walk down Pender Street, look up โ€” a piece of Chinatown history is right above you.
