A legacy carved into the foundation of Canadian wrestling.
Congratulations to Justin Abdou on a career that didn’t just achieve greatness - it redefined it.
Olympian. Champion. Builder of champions.
From stepping onto the world’s biggest stage as a 2000 Olympian, to dominating across continents, Justin built a resume that reads like history itself: 9x Canadian Champion, 17 national titles, 15 international titles, and 26 international medals. His 1994 Commonwealth Games gold remains a defining moment of Canadian excellence on the international stage.
At Simon Fraser University, he became a standard of dominance - setting the SFU record for most career wins in a season (212) and capturing 4X NAIA Championships. Across every level he grappled in, he didn’t just win - he set the bar.
His impact didn’t stop on the mat. As a coach, he shaped the next era of Canadian wrestling, earning 2X CIS Coach of the Year and 4X Canada West Coach of the Year, building athletes who would follow in his footsteps of excellence (and lets admit it - in his world renowned inside leg trips!).
His legacy is permanently etched into the sport through induction into the Canadian Amateur Hall of Fame, NAIA Hall of Fame, SFU Hall of Fame, Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame, and Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame.
This is not just a retirement.
It is the celebration of one of the most complete careers in Canadian wrestling history - an athlete, a coach, and a cornerstone of the sport.
Happy retirement, Justin. The standard you set will never be matched - it will only be chased.
